Posting Clothing

Hi Guys

Just a quick question, I have looked back through previous threads but cant see if anyone else has asked this-apologies if it has been asked already

I'm having a big clear out of clothes and have put them onto e-bay hopefully I'll get a few quid for some of them. I just wanted to know how do you normally package up your clothing items to post them?
I've already sold a few mens shirts and have recycled jiffy envelopes from home to post these-i've only charged the buyers for the postage, not the packaging costs.

The reason I'm asking now is I have a few pairs of suit trousers to sell (ladies)they're quite thick and heavy as some are made from wool and also some handbags to sell. Most are too big for an A4 jiffy envelope. I dont really want to use the bags some people have mentioned on previous threads as people have said the clothes can sometimes smell after being in the bag.

Any suggestions/ideas?

Many Thanks

I wrap in (acid free) tissue first, then in bubble wrap, then in 'the bags some people have mentioned' - Have had no problems so far.

The bags are dirt cheap off ebay, as is the bubble wrap, and you can buy the tissue there as well (although I think it's quite pricey, so if anyone knows a cheap place to get it I'd be grateful!)

    brown paper
I'm not a bloke! :rotfl:My real name is Sinead, Sid is my nickname :rotfl:
  • My OH packs for me :D and will always make a box to fit the folded garment, wrapped in tissue paper. And then the box is wrapped in brown paper.

I save any tissue paper/un-torn plastic bags from clothes I buy as well as bubble wrap etc. Try to recycle where I can to save a few pence.

I use rubble bags for the garden if it is quite a big item e.g. shoes or a chunky item of clothing. They can be cut down to size and parcel taped up and are pretty strong. They also cost less than 20p each.

I recently bought 50 sheets of acid-free tissue for £3.32 post free (ebay no 330302221113) and have recently used just that inside 'the bags some people have mentioned' without bubble wrap, with no complaints. Some things then go through the large letter slot.

When I sold a linen jacket that my OH had bought (why?) I boxed it so it wouldn't arrive looking like a rag.

I was going to just wrap the clothing I sell in brown paper but I will probaly wrap it in tissue aswell now because I know paper etc can give a horrible smell off.

I use mailing bags - but i have noticed some smell like they have been in a burning warehouse.

For items that may be ruined if creased badly, eg suits and jackets - i always box them with recycled boxes and send standard parcels.

The grey mailing sacks are the worst offenders and they do stink - they have got some buyers complaining that the item smells of smoke, so Tech is not far off.

However, there are other colours out there that don't have the same problem.
