Will my childs student loan etc affect my benefits? can anyone help please?

I cannot find on any site wether my benefits will be affected by my daughters student loan money as she will be staying at home, will be taken into account with my benefits, does anyone know please?

    Thankyou John, for replying. I do know that wftc and child benefit will stop but I don't know if I claim benefits after august for being on a low wage or housing benefit or being out of work etc will her uni money be taken into account as she will be living here with me? Can you help please? Many thanks for your help so far :)

    You will have to notify them that you have a non dependent adult living with you. If you are a single adult in the house presently, you will get to retain yoru single adult discount on council tax, as long as your daughter provides them with a copy of her student status.
    On your housing benefit, you will likely receive a deduction for having a non dependent living with you - and her 'income' would be the full amount of student loans and bursaries. This amount will be the determining factor in how much of your HB you lose. You will still retain a room entitlement for her however.
    When you determine how much you will lose of your housing benefit, that needs to be the starting point of how much room and board she pays as that's what the maintenance loan and/or grants are for - living expenses.

    Your daughter needs to get a Council Tax Exemption letter from her university; this is effective from the start of the year (September 1) even if she does not register until later in the month.
