A friend`s dh follows her around everywhere and it is making her depressed, she burst into tears when she was telling me. It can be very hard for the wife to have her dh suddenly at home all day, every day for ever, especially if she is an independent soul. I recommend that op takes the p/t job and takes it a week at a time, otherwise he will be spending 24/7 with his oh and one day the shine will come off for her

Several years ago, I registered with Ebay. I had a whale of a time selling stuff ........ I found it great fun. And I still enjoy Ebay every few weeks or so!

Actually that is something I wouldn't mind doing , specialising in something and trawling round auctions to sell on Ebay . Not to make a fortune just an interest .
Though I have never had any great success with Ebay so far .

Funnily enough have just listed first bulk load of old shop stock we were left with (£300 worth starting at £25....no bids so far ! ) . Garage is fairly crammed with old stock and it only trickles out at the few car boots we have tried , even at 50p an item .

When I was in work I always thought it would be great to go to the local auctions and yet now 3 months since we finished I haven't yet had the chance .

The other worry is that if you are claiming Pension Credit , buying and selling stuff on Ebay ( if found out ) may be construed as a business and affect your benefit .
Am even worried about selling the stuff we already have , even though it is being sold at way less than cost .

Yes when we had our shop we heard that many times , how the men got under the wifes feet .
My wife is the opposite....she like me to follow round so that she can issue instructions without repeating herself :rotfl:

As for the p/t job haven't heard a dicky-bird so assume I haven't got it and a letter will probably arrive in a day or two rather than the phone call as stated ("at the end of the week" ).

Actually I am surprised at M&S methods with regard to interviews .
I passed the online questions , I passed the in-store role play , according to the interviewer and that's it .

Not one actual interview question , asking about experience etc. just the role play , so what they base their selections on is a bit of a mystery ?

Usually with interviews the jobs offered are described , together with the hours / shifts conditions etc. and you usually come out of an interview thinking , "I would really like that job" or maybe the opposite .

I came out no wiser than when I went in and was only told that the position was in the food-hall operating some new "zonal merchandising" idea , when I asked what the job was for .
For all I know could have been on bras and pants section !

Maybe they think that you are fortunate to get an interview with them and should be grateful to work in any position offered ?

She didn't know the hours or the shifts .
Maybe she just took a dislike to me and couldn't be bothered.... (could have been the shiny red hotpants :rotfl:!) ...though I suspect its my age .

If you're running a small internet business like this, you can claim the hours you put in on top of the 25 hours M&S might offer you to bring you over the 30 hour threshold for tax credits.

You can always defer your state pension and you earn interest on the sum not being paid to you

Thanks for that . OK if I was in work.....however no advantage if I don't get a job and have to claim Pension Credit :

What if I am receiving Pension Credit?
Even though you may have put off drawing your state pension, your Pension Credit entitlement will be calculated as if you were getting your state pension.

    Doh.....that's why I can't find them !:p

Sorry for mix up...... I meant that there was no mention of where the positions were for , right from the very first advert and then all through the application process .
It was only after the role play had finished and I asked , was I told it would be in the food-hall .
Thats what makes me fairly confident that I haven't got the job (still no news) as the interviewer couldn't be bothered to discuss it .

    Update :

Confirmation (10 days after interview/roll play) that I didn't get the job , as I had a phone call from M&S today .

Well not so much as I didn't get it but just " there wasn't a position for me at present " , which to me means the same thing .

When I asked for feedback as to why I didn't get any of the positions (after 40+ years in retail ) I was told :
" You passed the interview but there isn't a position for you and we will keep you on file and will ring you if something comes up " .

All I know was that initially there were about seven jobs advertised online and I don't have one of them so it looks like I will be applying for the Pension Credit as there isn't anything else about for oldies .

When I have sorted that out I will probably have a go at some volunteer work but wish to thank all here for the excellent advice .

Hi there one thing to bear in mind if you do get a part time job is that WTCs are paid out on 16 hours not 30 anymore for over 60's,the rules changed in April of this year :)
    mortgage free 3/10/12:)
