Oh no Jojo, I bet Einstein will do that LOL
Also he keeps standing in his poo when he buries it, I have been wiping his paws with a damp cloth, is that OK? He is so adorable, he grooms meevery night at 10pm!!!
It's fine....but consider whether you still want to be groomed at 10pm when he weighs about a stone
I could dream to wide extremes, I could do or die: I could yawn and be withdrawn and watch the world go by.Yup you are officially Rock n Roll

My litter tray is a big plastic storage crate which I got out of B&Q. Actually I have three or four of them as they came in a bundle. As cheap as chips! My kitties were fine with it when they were babies, even though it's high sided it was absolutely no obstacle to their using it.0

My babies use a covered tray with door removed from wilkios think it was about £10 they also do cat liners to fit 15 for 99p still leave a mess bless them

I have two Jumbo sized litter trays from Zooplus (extra large). They are big enough for the largest of cats and they have plenty of room to move around in. I get no mess from the cats using them.

Might just be a newbie's technique but two things occur to me, firstly is the tray too small for him to easily stand away from the poop whilst being buried, even if he poops right in the middle? IMO even many 'large' trays are not actually large at all.
Secondly his poop should not be wet enough for him for standing in it to be much of an issue. Are his poops very well formed and non-smelly? If not you may want to consider changing to a higher quality food.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0 -
The tray is the biggest I could find, but when he gets bigger it will definitely be too small. His poo is well formed but can be squishy(sorry TMI) I am feeding him Whiskas Kitten pouches, are these OK? I have also bought some Whiskas dried kitten food to mix into his diet as his appetite increases, so at the moment he has 2 pouches of food a day, and I make sure as soon as he empties his bowl I refill until I can gauge his appetite(plus he barely ate when I got him and was underweight), but as he gets hungrier I will give him 3 pouches plus a little dried to graze on. He is at the vets for 2nd lot of jabs in 2 weeks, so I am hoping he will be at a normal weight then. He has been wormed/flea treated too.
Thanks for all the advice, you need more info to keep a cat than a child!! lol0 -
Most people think Whiskas is terrible food, but one of my will ONLY eat felix, the other eats hills science or PAH biscuits (dont like wet) and I recall both my cats as kittens had slightly squashy looking poops for a while, I just figure it takes a while for bits and bobs to process food properly......both just poo once a day now (at 3am - one after the other - urgh!)
I have 1 hooded littery tray with the flap removed as one cat is really simple, and she couldn't figure it out, bless, and just a regular sized normal tray, which in actual fact, the male cat is probably way too big for, but he likes to wee in that one (both do oddly) and he manages just fine without trodding in stuff, although, he has on occasion misaimed, and weed down the back of it. Bleugh!
He likes to have the toilet then roll all around the hall carpet afterwards, not so fun standing on hard litter at 5 in the morning. Ouchies.0 -
That is the best way to avoid tracking.mummyroysof3 wrote: »im going to put a carpet style door mat in front of the door so any litter that comes out onto it i can just tip back in
I confess I use a turtle mat - it is the best. (Not at all MSE)
I keep a designated teeny dustpan alongside, so any stray bit of litter (World's Best of course) is easily swept up.
There is no tracking off this mat.
I can shake it back into tray; bash it on the wall outside; hoover it - or toss it in the washing machine/drier if I want.
I also have this trapper mat, and it is the same.
This cheaper alternative is better than ordinary mats, but I don't like these rubber edged ones as much as those above.
(Yes - I've tried them all. When I weakened into a wimp I struggled to cope with all the mucky boots, mucky dogs and mucky cats.)
The right type of basic bathmat has also worked well - especially travelling.
It needs to be heavy/thick enough to stay put, stiff enough so it doesn't ruck up and plain so you don't get annoying bits stuck in tufts.
Young cat might decide it's his toy - I did once find a cat wrapped around it, biting and kicking for all he was worth.
Rising_ashes's carpet sample is a good idea.
I've previously tried several plastic mats specifically designed for purpose - I didn't like them.
The stiff one with ridges was clumsy and the litter still tracked.
The softer one with bristles stopped tracking, but you had to spend ages picking the bits out.
Not tried the pvc mat here : "Hundreds of tiny depressions in the mat capture the scattered litter". Poor grey cat needs a bigger tray. The Trixie ones look like they could be okay.0 -
I have several large hooded trays stored in case we should need them again; but my cat prefers this one - and so do I.
It is rather large.
He likes having a clear view while he goes - he's not shy.
He has lots of space and plenty of headroom.
He can turn around easily while he chooses the perfect spot - nearly always the same one.
It is always clean and ready for His Worship.
I like that he doesn't kick the litter out - sometimes happened even with hooded trays.
It is easier and faster to clean - don't have to remove and replace hood - and no hood to clean.
It is always clean - I sometimes have to hold myself back to wait the half hour for the litter clump to remain intact.
I have the litter locker alongside - 'tis bliss!
We didn't pay that price - perhaps the offer will return.
This has good reviews and is "Aesthetically pleasing too".
Still pushing the open ones.
8 Reasons Cats Hate Their Litter Box
"Since cats prefer eliminating in the open, where they can easily see their surroundings, and possible threats, a hooded litter box totally blocks their view, leaving them feeling insecure and vulnerable."
"With hooded litter boxes cats tend to eliminate with their tails sticking out of the doorway because they have no other place to put them while trying to use the restroom."
We hated the omega roller one - claustrophobic and difficult to clean.0
