Jane norman in administration

I heard about Jane Norman going into administration last week, and I was wondering if anyone knew anything about our rights to anything we have bought from the store regarding gift cards. My mum bought me a £100 gift card by credit card in January, and it lasts for 2 years. However I still have most of this money on the card. Do they have a legal obligation to refund this money since I now cannot use the card? It would mean my parents have wasted nearly £100 in a shop that is now closed! :(

There was a post about this the other day...where the person said they were told in Jane Norman that they could only use the giftcard if they spent the same amount again. Ie. In your case you could only use it if you were spending £200. Here is the post:

If they are in administration then they no don't have a legal obligation to refund the money to you (not that they would have the money if they are in administration! anyway). I had this myself with a £100 experience voucher the company went bust and we lost the money.

I would try to use the voucher asap before they cease trading.

The new owner does not have to accept the previous companies vouchers though....

I bought an experience voucher from a company called Days to Amaze (I think!) which went into administration and the new company that bought it (they even used the same company name as the old company) would not accept my voucher (which had not expired) as it was from before they bought the company.

On the other thread someone has put that they were told in store that:

That they are not allowed to be redeemed on sale items
That you must spend twice the amount of the vouchers
That they are invalid after July

You need to get into a Jane Norman store ASAP, and spend them (before end of this month), and you'll have to spend double the voucher amount i.e. if you have £50 left, then you'll need to spend £100 to use them, paying the extra £50 yourself.

This may sound rubbish, but generally vouchers can't be used at all in these situations, so it's better than nothing.

The new owner has no obligation whatsoever to honour the vouchers, and probably won't.
Should've = Should HAVE (not 'of')
Would've = Would HAVE (not 'of')

No, I am not perfect, but yes I do judge people on their use of basic English language. If you didn't know the above, then learn it! (If English is your second language, then you are forgiven!)

OP, have a read of this lengthy thread on the subject.

The concept of Gift Cards always carries the risk that the store that should honour them may not be available when needed.
