British Gas CO detectors

I paid for a CO detector from my BG engineer as I was told although it was expensive it had a 5 year warranty on it.
So after a couple of years it starts beeping & the power lights flashes.
I emailed BG (I am hard of hearing) & asked for advice, no reply after 24 hours si I disconnected it & emailed them again, again no reply.
Emailed them a 3rd time & got a condescending woman on the phone saying they would post me one out within 28 days???
28 days went by & I emailed again, got the same woman on the phone again telling me it was a "goodwill gesture" & I hadnt paid for it so I had no right to complain & that BG couldnt just lay its hands on a CO detector as if they were a shop and more to the point I should not have emailed them as the email was for accounts enquiries only.
I am totally gobsmacked by their rudeness & bad customer service.

Nothing anyone could tell me about British Gas would shock me, after the various experiences my husband and I had with them! Needless to say we took our custom elsewhere and are very happy with our current provider.0 -

I will be going elsewhere as well. I do have the full homecare package with them & can't believe that BG would want to lose custom over something so simple.
Its their loss.Tallyhoh! Stopped Smoking October 2000. Saved £29382.50 so far!0 -
This sounds a bit like a communications breakdown to me.
Either you contacted the wrong department (in which case they should have given you the correct contact information) or possibly, the lady on the phone misunderstood you.
CO detectors are carried on the vans but when exchanged under warranty, they need to be replaced by the manufacturers.
There is a phone number for this written inside the drop down flap on the front.
I'm only guessing but perhaps this was the cause of your problem.
I doubt whether this helps you but it might offer an explanation.

Thank you Gareth. Maybe it would have been better had she (they) bothered to find out the correct procedure. After all if they dont know, how should I?
My original email did not ask for it to be replaced, I asked for advice as to what I should do, Maybe the lady at BG should have posted on here to find out.
