Corgi Advise Please
afternoon peeps.
had a corgi guy come round to service my boiler.
whilst here i asked if he could disconnect an old wall fire so i can have it removed and re decorate.
this has been done however its his method that puzzled me
he used a circular pipe cutter to cut pipe off (after turning gas off) (ok )
us then got rid of a few hundred layers of gloss paint on it ( fine)
then he didnt havea cap with him so painted the inside with something he called flux (??)
squashed the pipe flat with some hose grips and soldered over the joint and said that would be fine (really)
turned the gas on and all seems well, cant smell gas however is this normal?

No it is not normal and is illegal.
Are you intending to re-fit the wall heater? If so he should have just disconnected it at the isolating valve and plugged the exit of the valve for now.
Is it just you saying he was Corgi by mistake, as all gas fitters should now be Gas Safe Registered.
If it was him who said Corgi then I would doubt him and check up on him.0 -
Get him back quick, tell him you can smell gas...............
I would also cancel the cheque and report him..........................make the most of it, we are only here for the weekend.
and we will never, ever return.0 -
yep, thats proper dody bodge stylee, i dont know of anyone who would do that to a gas pipe, smell fishy to me!0

Just someone out paper0
-
That is now classed as At Risk as it has been sealed with an 'Inappropriate fitting'0
-
what would i need to do for it to not be an issue other than get another person to fix it?0
-
Unless your a competent person - nothing.0

Did you ask to see his GSR ID? Did you check him out on the GSR register on their website?
Get a competent GSR engineer in to do it properly and report him.No free lunch, and no free laptop0
