I got a blender/food processor for Christmas but it's never really been used.
When cutting onions, it's just a lot easier to use a knife and there aren't enough people in our household to warrant the huge processor.

I got a Sage by Heston Juicer last saturday, not cheap but got it at House Of Fraser for 135 via topcashback. And it works a treat, a lot better than the cheapo rosemary conley juicer we had.. that died on it's second juice as the design meant juice leaked and got in the motor… This one is easy to clean, works fast and has a couple of nice design features. The price will also motivate me to use it more.

I also like my french press/cafetiere.. cheap. Nespresso machine, bought when the £40 deal was on (annual deal)

I was looking at the Sage stuff in the Lakeland catalogue. It looks like a lot of thought has gone into all the products - like the kettle that you can set the temperate, as boiling water isn't ideal for coffee, or the toaster where you can interrupt a cycle to pop it up and see if it's done enough without having to reset the whole cycle. I would love the toaster. And maybe the coffee machine...

Tiff, type the name and model of your bread maker into Google and look up recipe books.
remember you need to get proper bread making flour, quick rising yeast as well as salt and sugar.
most can be preset to switch on early morning to provide a fresh loaf by the time you get breakfast.
My bread maker has never failed in 40 years.
My breville sandwich maker has been in use for over 20 years with no problem.  Remember to butter the outside of the bread though.  The heat plates are removable for cleaning.
I personally don't like slow cookers.  I had friends who put their evening meal on slow before leaving for work in the mornings, but  had a power cut while out so had to cook something else.

How much do you think each loaf costs to make, Becles? It sounds lovely and I do love my bread. I think I might have to ask for one for my birthday in June. What make do you have?
Less than a large bought loaf.  But I have solar panels and it costs me nothing for cooking during daylight.

Own brand gadgets can be great value and work well i.e https://www.wilko.com/en-uk/wilko-slow-cooker-35l/p/0468516

  • I know this was an older thread but am happy to see it again!! I find my soup maker wonderful for this time of year. All of my 'bendy veg' and leftover fridge bits get put in with a stock cube and seasonings . just 1/2 hour later a wonderful soup is waiting for me - I also make pasta sauce in it with tinned or fresh tomatoes and herbs, add extra veg as no one sees it too!

3 days for a large loaf.  After that, use it for toast or bread and butter pudding.
