The job sounds bloody brilliant, something that is multi-discipline engineering that someone can get their teeth into and there aren't that many types of job that come up around here often.

I have to agree with you that the job sounds the type of thing many would kill for.

i know I would give it bash given the chance.

Craig, looking at this and some of your previous posts, you do come over as a little precious and oversensitive. You really should try to toughen up a little.

I know, how awful they asked you to go on a training course in Italy as soon as you started. However did you cope. Times are tough out there as you will find out. This place sounds better off without you, i'm sure there'll find a better fit in no time.

I don't think it really matters whether people on this board think that walking out shows a lack of character. You've done it now, you can't undo it, and you need to think about what will be best for you in future.

That particular job sounds like a mismatch. It was probably a fantastic opportunity for somebody, but it didn't suit you. That happens, and there's no point beating yourself up about it. However, you need to be very clear in your own mind about why it didn't suit you so you can avoid putting yourself in a similar situation in future.

Thanks for all the replies good people.

I have taken on board what you have all said as positive feedback and will take time to think through what I should do.

    Hi Craig D,
You are right to have left. I would give my right arm to have been pushed out of sales and forced down another alley sooner. Many will disagree but I feel that you can tell a succesfull salesman/account manager/business development manager because they no longer work in sales/account management/business development.
Retrain or restart in a different career is my advice.
    Good hunting.

I think that's why the interview is important. Always remember it's your chance to decide about whether you want to give some of your life to them, while they, for their part, decide if they want to give some of their money to you. If it doesn't feel right, and you can afford to, you don't have to take the job if you don't feel right about it.

I'd love to but sadly I had to turn down a similar job with a company that manufactures container sized generators due to a back injury that chose just the wrong time to re-appear.

It sounds like it was a job that not only required electronics engineering but some mechanical engineering and also engineering drawing skills - annoyingly stuff I have. Ho-hum.

I had a call from the agency today which put me forward for the job I walked out on asking what the problem was. I explained that I didn't feel comfortable in the role and that I was regretful about the manner in which I left. The agency then asked if I would consider going back and suggested I called my boss to apologise and ask the question.

The response from my boss was we are not the kind of company which accepts staff walking out without working their notice then asking for their job back a few days later and he wasn't happy with my performance up to then anyway. He said he would think about it and call me back in the morning. I suspect he was thinking of letting me go if I hadn't have handed my notice in judging by the comment about him thinking things weren't working out. I think the main lesson is to trust your gut instinct.

I have an interview at another company on Monday for a less demanding role.

I think it's time to put this behind you; in a technical role, hitting above your weight is tough at the best of times, and you knew you would be doing that, but in your first three months, the company discouraged asking questions <-(?!) mucked about with your training in favour of covering two very demanding roles, piled the pressure on and then had the cheek to moan about your performance? I'm sure you and the ASM are not the first to quit from stress, and won't be the last. Frankly, they sound like a*******s. Good luck with your interview next week.
