IB decision............how long?

Anyone know how long on average it takes for a IB award decision?
thanx

Normally 2-3 months. You should be claiming income support now then you'll get the difference as a back dated payment.

Mine took forever. I applied for IS and IB in November 05. I was declined for IB in December. I applied again in January and was told I should not have been declined in November and my claim was finalised in March.

When I originally applied for IB last year it took about 6 weeks to 2 months I think.

thanx for all the replies. When i put in my claim i sent it to 1 place, who forwarded in to another, then they rang & guess what? Yes they were sending it to the main office. What a nonsense! I was told that once they recieved my ssp1 form from my ex-employers they would process it. I thought oh ok maybe a couple of weeks. Oops think i assumed wrongly! I cant claim IS cos of too much in savings which is just as well really considering i have got to wait a bit & then i dont know if i will actually get it! Perhaps this is some way of trying to put me off!
    thanx again!
  • It will vary depending on the area you are in as do the reviews.

Just a quick question - you say you couldnt get IS because of savings - were you not ill when you first applied or how come the change from IS to IB - if you were ill shouldnt you have just applied for IS straight off?

sorry hjb didnt see the answer! I have never asked for IS & the people on jobplus said the only thing i could recieve was IB. My history is this: I was working & went sick in apr 2005-jan 2006, after having back surgery. My employers paid 6mth full SP & then half pay. It was in 2005 i went on IB after ssp stopped (i think!). I had a 52wk link form. Went bk to work & got med ret in nov 06. Rang Ib & forms etc sent & am now awaiting a decision. I only assume the IS is doubtful whilst reading the dwp website. I did receive a small payment from work which pushes me over the 6000 limit criteria. Of course if you know different please tell me............i am hopeless with the benefit system, thats why i come on here to try & understand it! As i said i thought after what the IB people said , it was a case of pressing the buttons etc, esp with the 52 wk link. Naively i was wrong! thanx again

The savings limit for IS has been raised to £16,000 before you are not entitled to anything. A £1 deduction from the IS amount is made for every £250 over £6,000 in savings.

You wouldn't get the full amount, depending on the amount of savings over £6,000, but you would still be entitled to free prescription, dental etc.
