Motorcycle NCB from two policies

Hello,

As of the 17th I've earned one years no claims bonus riding a Yamaha. I'm trading this bike in for a new Honda on the 11th.

I'd like to use my NCB on the new policy six days early, as clearly once I've traded the Yamaha in I won't claim on that policy. One insurance company has agreed to honour it up to a fortnight early providing the no claims notification is sent through when it comes, but my best quote has not.

The best quote is still the best if I were to insure it with 0 NCB.

At the end of the next year though, would I still have 1 years NCB from the new policy, or could I renew with two years: One from the Honda, and one from the Yamaha? Does the first Yamaha year of NCB expire, or does it not count as it's on a different vehicle?

Best wishes and many thanks, Daniel

You cannot add separate NCDs together to come up with a new total, unfortunately.

Most insurers will recognise an NCD for up to 2 years after the policy lapsed but a few do allow up to 3 years.

NCD is a bit of an odd one in how it works as in you cannot add or divide them, cant use it on multiple policies, cant add them mid year etc etc However these are all generalities and it is ultimately down to each insurer to decide how they want to act and so for every "rule" you can probably find at least one exception.

Surely you would be best delaying the trade in until the 17th so that you can apply your newly-earned 1 year NCD to the cheaper policy and get 2 years NCD next year.

Yep, great idea, don't know why I didn't think of that :-)
If it's a new bike they should be flexible.
Worst case, pay them for the bike on 11th.

Do Honda bikes offer a 7 day 'ride away' policy in the same way as their car division does ? This would cover your problem

Hello, I did the usual quotes on insurance websites and found that Swinton was the most competitive by a long way on moneysupermarket. I looked at cashback sites and found that if it tracks topcashback offers £27ish back, once on swintons webpage i found they gice you a discount code for £30 cashback if the policy is still in place in 3 months. Initially the quote was £64 hopefully if all goes well with the cashback it will be £7 fully comp and protected no claims. GET IN - Result

Well worth a little bit of research
