Paye ref?

Hi there.

Looking for a specific PAYE reference if anyone knows it, or where I can find it. Working for O2 and need it to properly change my tax code over. Nightmare! Can't find it and rather than wade through endless phone calls, I was just hoping someone knew it. It's not on my payslips and as I transferred from temp to perm in June it doesn't appear on my P60. Some quick help if appreciated. They were quick enough to take my BR rate off me for the tax year and leave me skint from my other job as I changed my codes over, but it's left me out of pocket and I'm trying to get a rebate ASAP (wish me luck). Cheers.

You need to phone your pay office. It will be in the form of 123/ABCDE. If you were a temp being paid by O2 on 5th April and had a P45 registered with them then it should have been on the P60 you got from them, regardless of your employment status as temp/perm.

O2 only taxed you at what the tax office told them to. They could not apply your tax allowance until they got the coding notice from the tax office.

Yea thats the thing,I wasn't employed as a temp through O2, so obviously once I changed my contract it's basically becoming a new starter. Furthermore, O2 are a part of Telefonica now, which could make things tougher.

O2 being part of Telefonica has no bearing or impact at all - they are still a seperate trading entity although owned and part of the Telefonica group.

Should have been on your P60.

Towards the bottom right hand side, under employer's full name and address

Employer PAYE reference, it should be in that box.

  • Phone HMRC. They should be able to find you using your NI number and can also advise on claiming any tax refund due to you at the same time.
Sometimes it seems that just when I think I have reached rock bottom, someone hands me a shovel.
