Is JWB worth the money ?

Like everyone I am looking to get the best value out of my doggie budget and am feeding my dooglie JWB at the moment.
She looks well and is absolutely fine on it but she eats a 2k bag every four days together with some salmon, meat or oily fish n vegetables and am wondering if its worth buying the expensive food or am I just paying for the ' hype'.
I am aware there are significantly cheaper brands and I don't want to feed her some cheap rubbish but i'm wondering if the quality matches the cost.
Any thoughts.

Could you not store a big bag somewhere? I found JWB good, only reason I changed pup was because her eyes were tearing real bad, changed her to Wrainwrights (yes I know it's similar to JWB) which significantly improved the tearing. If your pup is fine on the food, I wouldn't mess with it too much, unless you're really struggling financially. Though I have a small dog, therefore the larger bags do last longer, whereas mum has a Lab, and they obviously don't last as long.0

Take a look at this site:
www.simpsonspremium.com
Great value for good quality, high meat content food, excellent customer service and delivery.
I feed the grain free varieties and all my 4 are doing really well on it.
I got 6 500g bags free with my first order as well,so they could try all the different flavours

Thanks for that.
No am not struggling financially but like anyone if I can get the same quality for less I'd be happy. Like you say storing the big bags is difficult as I don't have anywhere suitable.
She is a Bullmastiif with a healthy appetite LOL and I'm looking to get a second dog ( I lost mine other dog earlier in the year and I think she would like a friend again ).
When I get a second I will have to sort something otherwise i'll be forever at the pet store buying it. I so wish supermarkets would sell it tbh it would save going outta town to the retail park.:beer:0 -

I just clicked on that site and am feeling so bad / good not sure which, as they have my two fave dogs on the front page. It was a Bulldog I lost recently . Will look again thankyou.:beer:0 -
I swear by JWB - both mog and dog have wonderfully glossy coats on their versions respectively (ok so the cat spends hours a day making hers pristine but the dog couldn't care less and still shines like he's escaped from a Loreal advert)... but we buy the massive bags when they're on special (think PaH had them on a tenner off until tomorrow) and store them in the spare room wardrobe decanting a bit at a time into a tupperware box to dish up from. Giant bag has so far lasted us a month and a half.
Mind you I have a dog with a really delicate stomach so changing away from JWB gives him attacks of the orange mister whippies that I'd really not go back to.Little miracle born April 2012, 33 weeks gestation and a little toughie!0 -
Like Starnight I'd recommend Wainwrights - loads of different varieties, good quality food and reasonably priced (was going to add a link but the Pets @ Home website seems to be up the spout just now). 15kg bags cost £33.49
Also, Skinners Field & Trial is VAT free (so a bit cheaper) and is wheat/gluten free and again very good quality http://www.skinnerspetfoods.co.uk/products/Field---Trial-Products/ 15kg bags of puppy are £29.99 but this drops to around £22 for the Duck & Rice (once old enough)Grocery Challenge £211/£455 (01/01-31/03)
2016 Sell: £125/£250
£1,000 Emergency Fund Challenge #78 £3.96 / £1,000Vet Fund: £410.93 / £1,000
Debt free & determined to stay that way!0 -
Our boy has been on JWB for just under a year now after a very sensitive stomach as a puppy. The cheapest place I've found to buy it is online at http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dry_dog_food/james_wellbeloved - but the good deals are on 2x15kg bags so maybe not helpful if you have a problem storing it. We bought these storage bags and they do make life easier http://www.zooplus.co.uk/shop/dogs/dog_bowls_feeders/food_storage/13680
In an attempt to reduce the animal food bils slightly we're just about to try him on alternate meals of JWB and chappie (which has surprisingly good reviews online for it's price, especially for dogs with sensitive stomachs)... http://www.amazon.co.uk/Chappie-Complete-Original-15-kg/dp/B003V9Z6E2/ref=pd_sim_grocery_1
I've found it quite hard to compare and have spoken to people that love and hate JWB...I guess it's just whatever works for your dog. There is this site if you want to get really into it... http://www.dogfoodanalysis.com/0 -
thanks kte will have a look.:beer:0

For cats at least JWB does not represent good value for money - the meat content is very low for the price per kilo. It's mostly rice or other grains which are cheap as chips for the manufacturer whereas the meat is the expensive ingredient. Whilst most dogs thrive with some carbohydrates in their diet, you will find that the feed rates of low meat foods are high, so an awful lot of the grain fillers are just being pooped right out again! That will be really noticeable in larger dogs. As others have said Chappie is rated well for dogs with sensitive digestion; if you run a search there have been plenty of threads on this subject with recommendations for Skinners and Wainwrights.Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

Although I've read on here somewhere that JWB may have gone downhill slightly of late, I was recommended it by the vet to help with mutt's colitis and skin allergies (which are better than when she was on cheaper food) so I'm sticking with it.
As well as zooplus already mentioned, gjwtitmuss are another online retailer that have good deals on the larger 15 or 18 kg bags. I compare the two as they seem to alternate for which is cheaper. Plus they're both on the cashback sites which adds up over time as well. They both have free delivery if you spend over about £20, and it comes within a couple of days. Much easier than carting bags home from the supermarket. All shall be well, and all shall be well, and all manner of things shall be well.
Pedant alert - it's could have, not could of.0
