I am currently on income support and going through a divorce, I am going to get a job and will be on tax credits and wondered if it will affect my legal aid?
Hope you can help

My sister lost her legal aid when she went back to work after maternity leave.0

it depends on how much you will earn and if you will get any financial settlement.
dont know about england but in scotland there is a calculator on the legal aid board website you can use to work out roughly how much help you may or may not get.
even if you do get help and you are awarded a financial settlement or share of the house or whatever like that then you would likely be expected to pay back some of the assistance anyway.

hi
I will only be on about £100 a week plus tax credits, maybe better to wait for the divorce to go through? x0 -
even if you wait if you get any money or property in the divorce you may still have to pay the legal aid board back.Countdown to Discharge Is On!

I'll be getting nothing from the divorce, when i start work I am going to try and buy him out etc...0

Do you have kids? You should not have to buy him out if this is the case.0

yes i have 2 kids, the solicitor said the judge will prob make me sell with him now being in debt.....the girls want to stay so im trying to get a job and hopefully buy him out......x0

Not sure the circumstances would be the same, but a friend recently got divorced (2 kids under 10), she was awarded 60% and he got 40%.
It meant she couldn't afford the mortgage on the family home, so she sold up and used her 60% to buy a cheaper, smaller property in the same area. Kids still go to the same school, she has been able to increase her hours at work now too, so they have a much better quality of life.0 -
you have property though so you will get awarded part of that and may have to pay out of that towards your legal aid.
its all detailed in the wee book you should be given when your solicitor applies for your legal aid.Countdown to Discharge Is On!

I got the opposite advice from most people including solicitor, was told to stand my ground and he would not manage to get the kids and I out.mortgage free by christmas 2014 owed £5,000, jan 2014 £4,170, £4,060, feb £3,818 march £3,399 30% of the way there woohoo
If you don't think you can go on look back and see how far you've come0
