internet connection to laptop wont work

i was using it yesterday and the internet went down. often does this but sorts itself out pretty quick. it has since come back on and works fine on the pc but not on laptop.
it says it is connected and that i have good signal but its just not working... any ideas??
ps it a dell inspiron 1018 if thats any help

Assuming you connect via a modem you control, you could try switching that off for a minute, then turn it back on. Also restart the laptop. Strangely these two steps will fix most tech problems.
