Which Mac does he have? There are slightly different answers depending on which machine he has.

    This is Ok.

USB networking connections are a bit flaky with OSX, sadly. It's far better to use ethernet and easier to set up.

Like I said - post the machine he has and I can give you a better answer.

Thanks for your answers, I will post his machine when I get the full details Nicky. All I know at the moment is that he got it given for his course work and he would like to, if possible to use it for the internet along with several house-mates. He also has his laptop (windows), so it's not a major problem, but would help it he could use either.

Ok the G4 PowerMacs are really easy to upgrade. Someone gave it to him? Nice :D

He will need to buy an original Airport card - not the Airport Extreme, or a card that will spoof one.

There's a list of cards here, or try here. Whether you're happy buying from eBay or that seller is another matter.

If you can't be bothered with faffing around looking for Airport cards (Apple no longer sell them so you have to hunt for them - I gave up looking for one for one of my PowerBooks and installed something else) then use an ethernet bridge.

This simply plugs into the ethernet port and will connect wirelessly to the router.

This is the best one around.

Let me know if you have any problems or questions.

    Happy Christmas.
