I like the idea and think its good. It would be useful in a back yard or paved over front garden. I agree about the country being in decline, food and fuel prices rising and everyone needing to be more selfsufficient.

Fully agree but two 12 ft lengths of 12 x 2" tanalised timber would make a much better, longer lasting raised frame, a lot more pleasing to the eye. The timber would also be much better in controlling both the temperature
and the moisture of the bed, giving a better growing environment.

OP, please could you explain what's in the Morrisons bags? I've looked and looked, but can't tell, and can't guess what they're for.
    I'm fascinated.
    Thanks

    vennypenny.

I Morrisons' bags contain young plants. I bring them on in the bags until I have room in the bag. They are handy earlier in the year, when the weather is colder. The whole idea is for people without too much money to spend being able to grow vegetables. So the shopping bags help to make up for a lack of a greenhouse, and the Sustead Vegebag makes up for a lack of soil - if you have too much concrete or stones in the garden.

I have thought of covering the bag with clear plastic sheeting to make a large cloche/small polytunnel, but while I have room in my garden to store plenty of gathered leaves, others may not have, so they will need the bag to store the following autumn's crop of gathered leaves. This makes winter vegetable growing impossible in the bag.

It will need others taking up the idea to find different ways of using the bag. For me it is more a hobby, I don't need to get as much produce out as could be possible if the bag were used all the year round.
