Catowen - wow - what no dessert other then the triffle and the Christmas Cake?? - we still havent got one!

Ive also got chocolate cheesecake and mini doughnuts in the freezer, and we already have more chocs than we could possibly eat, and im sure the children have more selection boxes under the tree, so dont think we will be going hungry this year!!!!
I have a steamer for my veg, so tend to be able to cook a lot without too many dishes!!!
Of course, the main part of christmas day is the bucks fizz in the morning, and the champagne/cava in the afternoon, i also love cooking and the drink helps the day go with a swing!!!!!

im so pleased i'm not alone in not understanding all the stress people go through about cooking christmas dinner.I just see it as a basic sunday lunch but with a bigger joint of meat. this year we are having roast beef, marmalade and whiskey glazed gammon, sprouts, carrots, peas, roast/mashed potato, gravy, horseradish sauce, gravy, yorkshire pudding and for afters if anyone wants it theres christmas pudding , cake , mince pies etc.i'll be preparing the veg tomorrow as well as making the yorshire pudding batter and cooking the gammon.
  • :xmastree:Hi all, before I forget Happy Birthday catowen:bdaycake: hope you had a great birthday, I'm sort of losing my christmas spirit abit, don't know why, got everything done presents, wrapping, cards, anything I could get frozen like the turkey from tesco half-price saving me £9.00 all done by the 1st December, so all I needed to get was the fresh veg, and cream trifle etc, well got all that on friday from tesco.com, and am wondering what I did all this for as got nothing to do now, it does'nt feel the same, the turkey is flawing out, but thinking of going for a crown next year I hate uncooked meat, so christmas dinner, turkey, pigs in kilts, roast pots, carrots, sprouts, cabbage, cauli, trifle for afters, picks at turkey and I got a duck £5.00 from tesco.com which was half-price also, so I've cooked that today, and sausage rolls, cheese and bics so we wont go hungary, but everyone enjoys there dinner,s Merry christmas everyone.

Pls be nice to all MSer's
There's no such thing as a stupid question, and even if you disagree courtesy helps.

Christmas dinner is just like cooking a normal roast dinner to me - although I do admit to making the stuffings earlier in the week and freezing them. I will peel the pots late Xmas Eve and leave them in the pressure cooker overnight, but that is because we always spend Christmas morning at my my parents with brothers, sister and her family. Then home to finish cooking the turkey and put the spuds on!
The reason I get stressed out is because I host a big family pre-Christmas buffet on Xmas Eve. My teenage children invite their mates around and I'm never quite sure how many people I am catering for, it can be up to 40!
"Cheap", "Fast", "Right" -- pick two.
  • First year that we won't be having turkey (relatives don't like it -bah humbug)

    So:

    Rib of beef

    Cranberry glazed gammon

    Roast Spuds

    Maple roasted parsnips

    Yorkshire puds (obligatory in Yorkshire)

    Pancetta wrapped chipolatas

    Stuffing parcels

    Brussels with chestnuts

    Carrots

    Broccoli

    Braised Red Cabbage

    Christmas pud.

Starter will consist of a few jars at our local!

We have had our family christmas dinner today, we go to my mums on christmas day and although I love her to bits I never enjoy christmas lunch because she goes so over the top and gets so stressed about it that you end up eating it in stressed silence and it is the same every year.

So I like to have a chance to do it "my way" and the golden rule is that I keep it as stress free as possible and keep it fairly simple. We put the christmas music on, pulled a cracker (!) and had turkey, roasties, pureed parsnips, bacon and sausage roll ups (pre bought), stuffing, peas carrots and sprouts (veggies just boiled in the pan). It was yummy, completely stress free and absolutely lovely to just sit and enjoy each others company :)

    Merry Christmas :)
  • Starter: Prawn cocktail
Main: Turkey, stuffing, pigs in blankets, carrots, parsnips, turnip, sprouts, roast and mash potatoe, stuffing and yorkys.
Dessert: Christmas pudding with Brandy Sauce.
    Cheese Board.

Mind this has to be the worst christmas ever, i returned from a trip to makro this evening to find my partner on a website called horneymatches! Ive told him to pack his bags and do a shoot. Im sitting drinking vodka and redbull at the moment drowning my sorrows, wouldnt be so bad if kids were not involved.

Have a wicked Christmas everyone and a blinding New Year!

    Kisses.
