God I wish I were one of you guys. I won't be but been saving all 2006 for the 10% overpayment to get this down a good slice in January.
Good luck to all of you,
My mortgage free year is still 7 year away but will be for my 40!MFW on your mark0 -

So I class myself as mortgage free, ( I could pay it if necessary) and I hope everyone else who is striving for it gets there in 2007.
Has anyone any experience of doing similar with the Woolwich - I'm going to pay mine off in January and would like to dodge the closure fees0 -
Our target date was originally September 2008, but a quick calculation suggests that it is now more like March 2008. So with a huge effort I reckon we could just about make it by the end of 2007 - starting with the extra £1500 I shall be paying off at the weekend.0

I'm in similar situation. The Bradford and Bingley BS want £225 exit fee plus another fee to check the deeds (£70 I think) but they say I can leave £100 in and pay the interest on it at 7%. They will keep the deeds for me. Don't know if this is a good idea as the exit fee may go up each year, so if I wanted to clear the debt in years to come, might cost me a mortgage to get the deeds!
Anyone any ideas where to store deeds securely without paying a fee?0 -
My mortgage will finally be paid off in October or November this year. I've been doing a mixture of overpayments, stoozing into the mortgage offset fund and using cashback credit cards to help me get there.
I owed £110,000 in 2000 and currently owe £19,000. There are currently 10 more repayments, although i'm hoping to reduce this to 9 if I possibly can!
Good luck everybody else who's hoping to clear their mortgages in 2007.Mortgage Feb 2001 - £129,000
Mortgage July 2007 - £0
Original Mortgage Termination Date - Nov 2018
Mortgage Interest saved - £63790.60
ISA Profit since Jan 1st 2015 - 98.2% (updated 1 Dec 2020)0 -

Mortgage Free in 2007? - I WISH!
We are about to increase our mortgage from £40k to £70k and then from that to around £100k to do extensive extensions/renovations on our new home, However on the bright side we have a very hefty slice of the equity (have never been one of the MEW fans) and because this is the house we will want to grow old in, once the works are complete we will then concentrate on paying the mortgage off (as well as increasing the value of the house). Luckily we can easily afford the repayments because we dont have other loans/credit cards. Speculating to accumalate you could call itl
Well done to those of you who have already done so though!0 -
We will hopefully be mortgage free by the end of the year. We have £19,500 left of our offset mortgage with First Direct, and I want to chuck everything at it to get rid of it. I have some savings (not much) but no other debt now. It will be a great feeling not to owe anything to anyone!0
