Hi all
I'm hoping to organise a party for my daughter in a month and I would love to have your ideas and suggestions on making it a huge success
The food I'm thinking off will be burgers in a bun and a few nibbles.
Drinks will be water and squash
Games I'm unsure of......any ideas? Girls and boys 7 to 9
Also how do I as the hostess stop and enjoy? Last time we had a party all the parents stayed (like they will this time) and I was running around fetching drinks for them practically all the time and I missed the happiness of my child enjoying her special day. Ideas please?
Thanks for reading x:A

How about a Pinata filled with loads of sweets?
I made one of these unfortunately, it never went hard, so to keep everything in, I taped it - which was fine, but it just wouldn't break! so we had to cut it in the end, but it was fun for them to try and bash the heck out of it and then the mad dash to get the sweets when they fell.
I don't think that you will stop and enjoy - tbh it's not your job to - well, as far as the kids are concerned.
Maybe you should make it clear that parents need not stay - or if they do - just point them in the direction of the drinks etc and say help yourself as I won't be running around after you!
If your garden is big enough - how about a bouncy castle?0 -
I'm doing something similar in a few weeks to mark my son and his friends leaving Primary school.
I shall be putting drinks on the side, including squash for kids in a jug with a lid (try poundland!) and into plastic cups for people to help thenmselves. I'll probably have mine placed on worktop in my conservatory, but you could also put them on a plastic patio table.
What's the occassion? I am not doing too many games, as I am across the road from a park and the kids can spill out there if they want.0 -
For my daughter's 5th Birthday we had a garden party. There was a bouncy castle, Trampoline, play dough, colouring, sand pit and water pistols, plus we let them decorate a cake each to take home. I bought them a value raspberry sponge each and we made some icing and left them with a bowl of sweets. As for allowing more time with your child, try and get as many helpers as you can. I had 17 children to the party and 7 helpers. Also try and borrow people's gazebos in case its hot. Good luck.0

hmm food is burgers, drinks pop and squash and you are serving nibbles (I assume thats stuff like crisp, bacon fries, skips etc?
can I ask if you have a fairly large garden? if so then why not make it an American Little League party? (thats baseball btw for those not in the know).
I would put Drinks, cups (be nice if you could get paper ones like the fast food joints, nibbles etc on a large table covered in red white and blue. mark out a baseball diamond (look up the little league rules if you want - otherwise play it like rounders!).
as the kids arrive sort them into teams and give them names, like Newcastle Newbies or Southampton Braves.
The first parents arriving to stay get pressed into service as Umpire, Coach 1 and Coach 2! (that may well put other parents off staying if they think they will have to work instead of getting waited on! make it plain that they can stay if they wish to help out! But you are the KIDS CATERING SERVICE (or the burger stand operator).
I wouldnt serve ANY adult food or drink whatsoever! The party is for the children NOT the parents!
btw - you arent SUPPOSED to enjoy the birthday parties at the time - in retrospect you do tho!0 -
Fantastic idea Meritaten, i only wish i had summer birthday to cater for.0

A water pistol fight always goes well 7 yo's - as long as you make sure they know indoors is off limits!
Cut pictures from magazines (car, cat, horse, house, flower etc) and attach one pic to each child's back (without then having seen it!) They then ask others, "What am I? Do I eat? / Can I sleep?" and so on, the other children give them clues in their answers.
Skittles. Just decorate some Yakult (or any other small disposable tubs or bottles) to use as skittles. Stick a large score board on the wall, and arm one of the other parents with a marker pen to keep the scores.
Face painting. The supermarkets sell small kits for about a fiver. Huge fun for the kids and the brush wielder. Kids will always see past any limitations of talent when it comes to face painting. Just ask their parents about allergies first.
If you are being pulled from pillar to post, call on one of those 'staying' parents and enlist a little help.0 -

Aliens didnt land today - okay, thats a bit wierd I know - but the kids could all bring light sabres!:)
Its summer and I feel like a party day! that should be official!
