How can we get a message off the laptop?

Hi there. Hubby keeps getting a message on his laptop every time he switches it on and locks itself there for about 5 mins.

It is demanding payment for sexxxpassport of £19.99, and he thinks it might be a scam, but wants to pay it just to remove it as he is embarrassed about taking it to the PC shop to ask them to remove it for him.

Is there anything he can do to remove this message?

And you believe his protestations that he knows nothing about it.:rotfl:

I’m only joking, I had similar problems a few years ago after my technophobe wife used the computer.

Try the suggestions in the link in the above. I used Spybot anti adware (it is free) to cure my similar problem. I now use Spybot regularly and have had no further problems, though there is no guarantee that Spybot will cure your particular problem. Here is the link.

Either way, you really don't want to be giving credit card information to people who install scumware on your PC... who knows what they'll do with it?

As mentioned, install 'Spybot search and destroy', Windows Defender, Ad-Aware and AVG Anti-Spyware and do a thorough system scan; one or more should get rid of it and Defender will run all the time trying to prevent new scumware installations (though it's not 100% reliable and completely ignores some scumware that others warn about). AVG is payware, but you can use it for free for personal use; it just disables some functions like automated updates after 30 days if you don't pay for it.

Personally I have Defender run a scan every night and run Spybot, AVG and Ad-Aware every week or two as a backup.

Thanks guys. I will let you know how he gets on. I'll just show him this thread as it's all a foreign language to me LOL.
  • Do not pay the amount! Run Spybot S&D, Ad-Aware and also type the name in Google and it should bring up an answer.

Finally, tell your husband to stop visiting these websites.

Not necessarily. As I posted above my wife infected our PC with something similar.

I'm not bothered what kind of sites he visits it's the fact that someone's trying to scam money from him that makes me , so thanks for all your help guys, I really appreciate it
