council house and kitchen flooring.

Hi everyone,

I dont know if i have posted in the right place but will delete if i have :o

I need some advice and dont know if anyone can help? I had a bad flood in my bathroom 3 years ago, when the council fitted a new bath they never connected the drainage pipe, so my bathroom floor became very rotten and had to be replaced( joists and all) anyway i thought no more problems.

About six months ago mushrooms started growing in my kitchen near the wall which against the bathroom. I called the council and they sealed the edge.

I did ask if the water might have gone into the kitchen from the bathroom and they said no because the kitchen is concrete flooring, anyway yet another yellow mushroom started growing a few weeks back so i decided to pull the flooring up to see if their was any damp, well i pulled the first layer of vinyl up and it was laid over two more layers then hardwood and then another layer of vinyl and eventually i came to wooden floorboard which are all black? do you think this is what might be causing the mushrooms to grow and slugs? ( i have slugs in my kitchen almost every night)

I dont know what else to do because i asked the council surveyor if he would look at my flooring 6 months ago and he said they wouldnt look because there was nothing wrong with the vinyl laid over it :(.

Is it worth me paying someone to do it if the council wont do the work?
I am just sick of seeing slugs it makes me feel like my house is dirty and its not.

If anyone could give me some advice

Thank you

Kelly

I would get back on to them and ask to speak to someone senior and explain you have pulled up flooring and have found wooden floorboard which are all black and that you are having these issues.
Might be worth going up to the council housing services yourself in person and taking photos etc with you and see what they say.
It could be that the flood was to blame for this or it could be a completely different problem causing the damp under the floor.

You shouldnt have to pay to get it done privately as i`m almost certain it is something they should be repairing.

I would hate to have slugs indoors!! Bad enough in the garden LOL!

Call them back in and don't take "no" for an answer. Those black floorboards are rotting but who knows what the actual cause is. That is for your landlord to establish and repair.

Ask an enviromental officer to have a look, they will help get the housing officer to do his job!!

By all means call/see them but also write (yes, WRITE, keep copy but write..) a calm, polite letter listing the issues and inviting them to fix them.

Then every week after call them up again, ask how things are going, send old letter again & another one noting their lack of progress.. Keep copies of letters. Copy to head of housing & your local councillor.

Sadly councils are trying V hard to save money (eg by not doing repairs..) since that nice Mr Cameron brought in the plan to reduce council spending by over 25%....
