Nationwide won't give me a debit card!!!

 I have been reading a few posts re Nationwide's fussiness with their debit card and flex account. OH and I wanted to change our banking to Nationwide and applied online. We were accedpted for a Cashcard only which is no good. We phoned and were told we had to apply in branch which we did - same decision. OH applied for a Nationwide CC and was accepted so we were told to wait for the CC and cashcards and come in and apply again. We went into Nationwide again this week, sat through the applications procedure yet again and got a 'Cashcard only' account:mad:
The lady at NW said she would appeal and would be in touch. The following day, (Thursday) she phoned, NW had rejected our appeal:mad: But the lady in the branch had decided to put through OH's details only and see what happened. Guess what!!! He has been offered a full Flex account with debit card and a £1500 overdraft. That is sooooooooooo not fair and I am fuming! He has been told to run it for 3 months then appeal to have me put onto the account. They can go swivel! He has a good credit record because I make sure his cc's and loans have been paid on time and I do the budgeting. I have a perfect credit record apart from a default in 2003 when we moved and I forgot to tell Freemans catologue. I paid and settled the account (of £66) 6 months late.
I'm not sure what else I can do.

Nationwide are extremely fussy about who they give a debit card to so as far as I'm aware all you can do is wait. I'm not sure why they cannot offer a dual function card without cheque guarantee function that people who can't get the 3-in-1 card could be provided with... (Most of the PLC banks do so if this is an example of "proud to be different".......)
Just out of curiosity, did they offer you a cashcard only or both a cash card and cheque book?0 -

HI
We were offered a cashcard only for a joint account.
I guess it's a time factor, we'll give a few months and wait and see if OH's full flex account will be able to be made into a joint one.Debtfree JUNE 2008 - Thank you MSE:T0 -
The same happened to me. They gave even a gold credit card but no debit card.
After much frustration, I applied for another flexaccount and bingo, I qualified for a debit card on this second account.0 -
I tried to apply for a NW cc and was rejected then applied (probably should not have) for another flex account and again got cashcard only.
After all this I applied for an Audi CC last night (no foreign currency loading so works the same way as a NW cc) and was accepted for one.
