A rant about Halfords bike hut staff

I phoned and asked to arrange a time to bring my bike in for a 6-week service – it’s a new bike, bought from Halfords. Bring it in today, I was told by the manager. This surprised me as they are normally very busy, but I thought you know what you are doing, there must have been a cancellation or something so I duly got the car rigged out to carry the bike and drive it there. Only to find that there was no time to do the bike. The book is full for the next 3 weeks. So why was I told to bring the bike in today? Who told you to, I was asked. The manager. Well some people say that so I’ll check with him why he would say that when we are fully booked.

No manager around.

Stalemate. I feel so unwelcome in the shop with people looking the other way as I stand my ground. Which I do after the hassle of getting the bike there and because I had specifically phoned to make an appt to have the thing looked at. I did not insist on today; I was told to bring it in today! Anyway, I’m not moving 'til I see the manager. Reluctantly, they say they will look at the bike.

And I’m told to bring my bike up the stairs. I didn’t design their stupid shops with the bike hut at the top of stairs! If Halfords wants that then they should have a lift or able staff to carry the bikes.

With reluctance and attitude, the bike is done. The manager returns. He says that he did recall the conversation but he doesn’t know why the message didn’t get through to the bike hut people.

In summary, I phoned to give them the opportunity to tell me when is the best time. The manager tells me today. I oblige by dropping everything and coming in today. I am then made to feel as though I have overstepped the mark in bringing the bike in.:eek::eek:

They were so unfriendly it felt like once they have your money you can go and take a running jump!
