As I'm struggling with something which is proving hard to even detect and there seems to be pleas all over the net for help with similar symptoms is this it?

Personally since you mentioned the new RAM, that could easily be the cause. It sounds more like an unstable system, not an infected system.

All the same, you can run TDSSkiller, aswMBR or Hitmanpro:

I would sooner approach TDL-4 from outside of Windows though.
