Compensation entitlement from phone provider?

Hello,
I wonder if someone can advise. I had problems with my virgin landline for over a year, and I was unable to use my phone at all for large amounts of that time, meaning I spent a lot of money on my pay as you go virgin mobile.
I called to report the problem numerous times and had 8 technicaniosn come to look at it with no success. It was only after an email o the CEO that it has been fixed.
I have requested compensation for the enormous amount of money I have spent on my mobile over the last year I also wonder whether I am entitled to compensation for the service itself – i.e. my landline bill.
I am unclear whether Virgin are obliged to provide some form of compensation
and if so for what : i.e. my mobile phone, my landline, the inconvenience, or if it is just up to individual discretion
I’d be really grateful for any advice on what I am actually entitled to.
Many thanks
