Why do people jump on one comment, the OP mentioned ONCE about being able to go on the same ride again if wanted however everyone then shifts opinions onto just that one thing.

Lets put this into perspective, we are talking one or 2 disabled people on a ride. A ride will hold generally around 20 people? So we are talking a few minutes more of a wait (taking into account there would be 2 less seats on the ride if the disabled people stayed on again) Hardly going to ruin anyone's day is it?? Also, how many times ANYONE can go on the same ride again and again is obviously going to be low, we are not talking about all day long on every ride!!!

I just think it is disgusting that this even needs pointing out to some posters on this thread, it shows the state of mankind nowadays.

Why do you think a disabled person, paying the same amount as anyone else, should get a better deal? Possibly three or four times as many rides as anyone else, and to the detriment of everyone else there.

No one is 'jumping' on one comment.

The OP has received replies to lots of different aspects of their post.

Last time I checked, people were allowed to agree and shouldn't have to be afraid of doing so because of posters who disagree and can't do so without trying to make out that we're incapable of thinking for ourselves..
  • How I see it:

I am sure that the disabled child and their parents would pretty much give up anything for that disability to not exist. If going on a ride 20 times in one day without queuing is some small compensation in return for a bloody hard life, then I will happily wait an extra minute or however long in the queue for that child and their family. Call it positive discrimination if you want to - or just call it 'something nice'

What about all the "normal" children who have to wait for a shot while the disabled child gets to play on that ride over and over?

Anyway the child in question is 4, how many busy rides can they possibly be planning on visiting?

The normal children will barely notice the wait. And maybe it'll teach them some compassion and that they are lucky that their lives are easier and 'normal'

Just because someone doesn't have a disability doesn't mean they have an easy or 'normal' (what is normal?) life.

My understanding of the disability system at UK parks is that patrons are given a card that is stamped with the queue-length time (say thirty minutes) at the time of their arrival at the exit gate. Then they can't ride that same ride for another thirty minutes, or whatever the queueing time is. However they can go on other rides within this time of course.

I think there are two levels of bands/cards. One like the above, and one that gives the person a band that indicates to staff that they may need some assistance getting into the ride, but can queue with everyone else. Although I could be wrong on that point.

    "A better deal"?

You need to get real and understand not everyone is as lucky as you are. I assume you are able bodied and lacking any disabilities?

For someone who isn't as lucky as you are then are you honestly saying they don't deserve something as simple as free entry or getting to stay on a ride? Tiny things in comparison to what they live with day in and day out.

As for other people not having the patience to wait an extra 5 minutes to get on a ride and as for people's non-disabled children then quite frankly who cares less? If this would be so much of an issue for you then you need to sort your life out.

I feel very strongly about this so if this is some sort of wind up on your behalf (which I assume due to your absolutely idiotic responses) then I suggest not posting any more on this thread.
  • Some people have no compassion! Moaning that your kids are getting a rough deal because they dont get the same benefits as disabled children. Really??? There are so many things my son will never do because of his autism that nost parents take for granted. Whatever happened to being thankfull for a healthy child?

Interesting way to drag up a 15-month-old thread. Ah well, since I clearly missed johnnyboyrebel's post, I can reply to both together.

My previous point still stands: "Why do you think a disabled person, paying the same amount as anyone else, should get a better deal?"

I'm specifically referring to the theme park. I am well aware that disabled children may have to put up with a lot in everyday life. But I really don't see how saying they shouldn't get extra benefits in a theme park means I don't show compassion.

    What currently happens is:
Child has additional needs - theme park makes arrangements so they can have the same experience as everyone else - equality.

There's this bizarre logical leap that seems to happen in some people's heads. What they want is:
Child has additional needs - theme park prioritises them so they have a better experience than everyone else, while also negatively affecting everyone else's day - inequality

Why stop at theme parks? Why shouldn't children with additional needs be given free food in restaurants, that all others diners in the restaurant at that time have to pay for? It's exactly the same situation, giving something extra to one group at the expense of the other.

Finally, it's not just "an extra 5 minutes" as suggested - that's a figure plucked from the air. It could be a significant time, repeated among all the rides in the park over the day. And no, this isn't a wind-up.
