British Gas High pressure phone call

After enquiring about changing my duel fuel supplier I got a phone call from British Gas. The whole conversation was high pressure and when I asked for it all to be sent to me in writing, the guy refused and told me they don't do that. He wanted me to agree on the phone to the switch - is this usual practice? I felt very uncomfortable about it and told him considered it high pressure sales and he immediately said 'bye' and put down the phone.

A British Gas salesman called at our house yesterday when I was out but my wife was in.
The conversation went like this:
Salesman: That sounds like a big dog, will it eat me? (smiling).
Wife: She is, and quite possibly, now what can I do for you?
Salesman: (smile fading) Are you interested in switching your gas and electricity to us?
Wife: No thank you.
Salesman: OK then, bye.

Where's the punchline?

Please say the dog eat him
