I have just told my OH about my debt

It's not as bad as you think it will be. If you have a husband that loves you and will be there for you no matter what, all should be fine (the fact you didn't have a blazing row over it says he was probably just in shock and should be ok) It is scary but you have come sooooo far and only on a modest wage and with bubbas too. Feel proud how far you have come - alone! think of the giant leaps you can get to together and then you will both be in the clear.
Keep you chin up sweets, it's scary but it'll be ok xxxLife is too short not to love what you do.0 -
I have paid this off by being 'tight'. So much so that I look in the bins at Tesco for receipts with unclaimed clubcard points on and pick them up and add the points to my clubcard account. I have downgraded supermarket shopping, gone to PAYG phone contract, which I hardly use as I can't afford the calls if I do as I will have to top up!. I have been buying clothes and pressies from charity shops and in the sales and putting them aside, batch cooking, walking to walk where possible, you name it I have done it and most of my tightening the belt ideas have been from posters on this fab site.
My OH hadn't noticed the food etc so I carried on until now when our mortgage deal is coming to an end and OH has been shopping around for a new deal (who knows now........).
He will have a outstanding credit report (he has to because of his job).
Update - he has just called and said he has spoken to our mortgage advisor and told him the whole situation and is looking at adding my debts to the mortgage ie: pay them off and said to me not to worry, but I am still crtying (self pity maybe...) as I type this, how could I have got in this mess. I await this evening.
Thanks for all support it really helps xxx0 -
If your income was halved following the birth of your children how did he think you were going to manage on reduced money with additional costs ?:beer:0

I know it feels horrible now but both you and hubby have learnt a big lesson about managing your lifestyle together. It can work out really good in the long term because you will value the eperience (even if you wish it had never happened in the first place). There may be a few frustrations along the way, but you have done well to clear so much debt in such a short space of time. Imagine how well you'll do with hubby on board too.:heartsmil When you find people who not only tolerate your quirks but celebrate them with glad cries of "Me too!" be sure to cherish them. Because these weirdos are your true family.0

Ok, so it looks like he's taken it all under his wing and it looking for ways to help everyone out. I dont know what the outcome will be, whether you will be able to get this sorted, but at the end of the day, he obviously cares because he's trying to get both of you out of the mess. He could have walked away, but that's obviously not an option. Calm down, it's done, it's out...now work the problem.
Good luckDebt Free! Long road, but we did it

Well done, both on telling your hubbie and on clearing so much debt yourself. It sounds as if things won't be as black as you thought initially. Clearly if this does get added in to the overall mortgage you will need to stay frugal - but it will eventually clear. Now you both know the true picture you can work together at clearing the debt. Hope it all works out for you both!Resolution:

Well done, I managed our family finances for years and messed it up hugely trying to keep everyone happy. Only in the last couple of years since I started working away from home has my husband uncovered our debts bit by bit. Not the best way to go about it, now we are working together to get them down.
You have done very well to repay such a huge chunk off your debts in only 18 months, I am sure your husband is better qualified than me re: this but adding them to your mortgage would mean you pay back a much larger amount in the end.............LBM 30/6/9 Unsecured debts [STRIKE]£25,323.48[/STRIKE] £0 :T Debt free

Gargrave not always, depends what int rate on the mortgage and how quick you pay the 27k debt, if you still try to pay that debt in the same time frame Im sure the debt will work out alot cheaper. 5% mortgage rate as opposed to 17% credit card rate.0

As above. You've made good progress over the past 18 months and I'm sure you'll keep it up. :T
Just one thought - as your OH works for a building society could he get a mortgage through them, maybe at a slightly better "staff" rate ?
