Help Getting Electric on Prepay Electric Meter

  • Well the currently supplier is utility warehouse on pre-pay meter.

Atm, they ask us to send them a copy of the completion letter.

I talk to my solicitor, they say even the letter that confirmed with exchange of contact with complete date shall be fine.

So i send them the letter, then they got back to me saying its not the document they want.

So I send another one with estate agent saying it is being completed on XXX date while i wait for the solicitor one (as i phone solicitor again, they willing to reissue another just say the property been complete at XXX date)

Now the utility warehouse want me to email them the copy, which i did. They say it took them 3 to 4 days to start processing the document, and then it will took them another 7 to 10 days to complete the process of clear the debt from previous owner, and then they say it will take them N days to send out the keys before even looks into reclaim our £40 back.

Not even mention that their office only open 9:00am to 5:30pm, which force me have to ring during work hour or lunch break at work on 0844 number on a mobile at 25p per minutes with typical waiting time of 4 to 15 min before even can speak to someone. (if they open 8 to 8 like other company, i can always phone them at home with cheaper call).

Its a nightmare to try get this fix and to get electricity. Everything is hold back due to their slow process time and response.

Now British Gas is starting the switching, and I not even start phone British Gas Meter Department to change the electric prepay meter to credit one, as I want to solve out this debt to be clear from the meter from the previous' owner's supplier.

Btw thank you for the person who suggest hiring the power generator. This have save me abit of money for not increasing the labour cost for the worker to work on the flooring and etc on the property.
  • try the emergry setting, accord to utility warehouse, they say due to the previous owner have £251.22 in debt, and even I already top up £40 to bring down the debt to £211.22. The previous owner still have a long way to catch up with the debt, So unless I keep topping it up to positive balance or catch up the weekly debt from the previous owner, there will be no electricity. But the previous owner is having about 12+ need to catch up on the weekly debt with value of £20 each.

Therefore another word it mean utility warehouse want us to pay the debt before can use electricity. What get me mad the most is, they are open an account for us, and transfer the debt into our account, and say you need to send us proof that they want before they can clear the debt. Otherwise if you want electricity, you need to pay the debt off. (I can't remember how many times they say, if you clear the debt from previous owner, you can always claim it back with receipt.) I don't see anyway we can claim it back as it seem they try to tick us to pay it all off.
