Car crash repair and insurance hassles!!

Every insurer will have negotiated their own deal with salvage companies but as a rule of thumb the salvage is typically about 10% of the total loss value of the vehicle - this can vary if the car is particularly rare (and so sort out for parts) or common.
If your vehicle is valued at £8000 and you have a £200 excess you would therefore receive £7000 settlement cheque (£8000 - £200xs - £800 salv)
It is also worth noting that if the vehicle is a total loss many insurers will require it to have a test after the repairs are carried out to confirm it is road legal, this is irrespective of where the vehicle is in relation to the normal MOT requirementsAll posts made are simply my own opinions and are neither professional advice nor the opinions of my employers

It's three weeks tomorrow since the accident and we're STILL waiting for a decision as to whether it will be repaired or not. This means that we still don't have a replacement car. You don't realise when you have fully comp insurance that states "you will have a replacement vehicle while yours is being repaired" that this can mean waiting for so long!0

Well, they've finally written it off! We are not impressed to say the least. I've created a new thread asking for advice on settlement etc. Thanks for all the advice so far.0
