Mattress - Delivery from London

We recently stayed in a plush hotel and were amazed at the quality of the mattresses, so being nosy, we found the manufacturers details and have found out where to buy them.
The mattress costs about £450 which is OK but they want a whopping £400 to deliver it to Durham.
Checcked with parcelforce and DHL and they won't collect
Does anyone have any experience in having a mattress collected and if so who did you use?

Can I be nosy too, and ask where you bought this from? My mattress is 10 years old, still in good order but am planning to replace it soon. I have the advantage of living in London:D.

Parcel2Go.com list TNT as doing a kingsize for 40Kg at £85+VAT - next day delivery. 20% cashback available on TCB too...0

Can you not arrange a man with a van and pick up, or find one in London willing to drive up.0

Hire a van and go pick it up yourself?0

A friend close to Stanstead, offered me her leather sofa early last year. Man with a van would do it - as long as it tied in with another journey in that vicinity, to deliver it to Kennington for £80.0 -
Its a 500 mile round trip - the OP would be looking at the cost of a days van hire + fuel at about £80 to £100 + days holiday. My suggestion above at £82 after cashback works out a lot cheaper and a lot less hassle.0

Are you getting the exact same mattress or one similar?
As Hotel mattresses usually have a better fire rating on them Source 5 instead of domestic source 3.Helping the country to sleep better....ZZZzzzzzzz0 -
Many thanks...
It's the exact same matress, hence there's only one UK supplier...
I work for myself and therefore would have to factor in losing a days income if I hired a van and picked it up myself.
I will investigate the man with a van option, but the TNT option looks pretty good.
Many thanks'elf and safety guru0
