Car servicing cost guide? typical prices for parts and labour?

Have just booked my Peugeot 307 SW (Diesel 1.6) for a major service at the local franchised Peugeot dealership (Robins and Day). The service will cost 270 which to me sounds like a lot already. I know they will say additional work will need doing that they will of course try and charge me an arm and a leg for. What I would like to know, is there a website that gives ‘typical’ costs of parts and associated labour associated with make and model of a car? I’ve been out of the country for the past 8yrs and am somewhat out of touch with typical costs.
It’s the first major service (no more warranty left) so I just wanted to have this service done at a Peugeot dealership before I take it to an independent one. But still; I don’t want them to take the pi55 when they give me the bill! So a site where u provide your make, model and mileage and it spouts out typical costs would be very useful...

Now the warranty is up, they will most likely find all those things that they could not find when it had a warranty, this first after warranty service is usually the most expensive bar none.
A car with a full main dealer service history will be worth around 10% more than one without.
on a £5000 value second hand car this would be around £500
With the average out of warranty service bill around £450 you dont have to be very good at maths to realise you might be better getting it serviced at a local none dealer garage, who incidentally may be a trained mechanic and not just a fast fit "motor technician".Hi, we’ve had to remove your signature. For Peugeot garages Peugeot set the number of hours per service or job so this is fixed. The hourly rate the garage charges may vary but not by a lot I would guess within an area. Peugeot garages are only allowed to use Peugeot parts (no OEM parts) so I guess again that the price will be fairly standard. Thanks Vax and Spiro.
Yes, am expecting a big bill from them.
Think the labour cost is about 85 per hr.
I'll be back on here later with the itemised bill...:(0 -
You can price parts up on Eurocarparts and then add 10%-30% to get a fair figure. I might be just about tempted to get it serviced a Peugeot one last time but insist that it is just the service and ask them to call ou if anything else develops. You can then get that done elswhere if you think that appropriate.
The other thing is they may offer cheaper servicing for older cars, many dealerships are nowdays.
The bonus is you might get some goodwill from Peugeot if there is anything seriously wrong.
Ask them for a price for the service first.0 -

They'll still charge you double that though.
The only thing wriong with Peugeot is that they are one of the few places where even the trade prices are still too expensive to be worth using normally.0 -

well, I said I would feedback the costs and here they are (may be useful for people looking up costs in future on here).
Of course there was some play that they found in the steering and that cost extra, as did the brake fluid which needed changing (asterix below in costs)
Labour:
Service: 80
*Change Brake fluid: 38
*Change Steering Control Arm: 140
Parts:
*steering rod: 28
Drain plug: 0.33
pollen filter: 14
D/filter seal: 44
Oil Filter: 12
Nut: 2
Hose clip: .88
Air filter: 14
*Brake fluid: 5
O-ring: 2
Engine oil: 21
Plus VAT, so all in, it cost approx 460!!
No real suprise in the costs perhaps. The surprise was the fact that the n/s track control arm needed doing (after 40k), and the labour on that seemed pretty high to me. Think they charge about 80/hr on labour.
