I had to get a PC quick just before Xmas (mine just died and couldn't be revived). I've always avoided PCWorld like the plague for stuff like this and told all my friends to do the same. I was in desparate need of a PC quick so had to go there
Amazingly, I was very surprised at just how decent a deal I got.

Embarrassingly for me given my almost pathological hatred for PCWorld and its ilk, I'm made up with it. Just gonna pop another 1gb RAM in, that's all.0 -
More crap spec laptops sold at the price they should be with people getting over excited about them. Sound slike last year's formula, no thanks. The laptops will be slow by today's standards and good for little more than web browsing and word processing, spreadsheets, smallish databases etc etc.
Okay. So right now, where is the best place to get a laptop?0 -

I spoke to a member of PC world staff a few days ago instore (I wasn't buying a computer, just a £1.99 ipod speaker someone on here had posted about) and he couldn't understand why people got so excited about the sale.
He claims that there are better bargains before Christmas and that the price of PCs and laptops doesn't change very much at all.0 -
TROLL POST !!!!!! - I suspect it was resurrected by the OP in a different guise, maybe because he/she has now been fired and has an axe to grind !
Nobody in their right mind would purchase anything from PC World anyway.0 -
Just browsing for PC world deals and got excited - then wondered why none of these products seem to be listed...... then noticed the 2006 date. Ooops!:o
As for comments about PC World, I bought a netbook from them. It was a brand, they had the best price by far (checked Megashopbot). I knew what I wanted so I grabbed their deal.
They did give me the hard sell on Antivirus, I told them I use a free one thank you very much, then the sales assistant said something about free one's being 1 year behind the paid for ones or something. I asked him where he has that information from and he didn't know. He then tried to sell me MS Office. I said I can get the top version for from Softwear4students.... he said "that's ok, maybe we can beat the price". I told him (it was something like £40 compared to their £140). He told me I must have my information wrong or it must be a copy.
In the end, after his being more interested in up selling, I told him I didn't want the one he's just broken the seal on, it's didn't look how I expected and I ordered one online when I got home. Ok, so PCW still got their sale but I felt better for not giving their assistant a sale.
My advice: If PCW have exactly what you want and you're not gullible, make the most of their special offers (checked by megashopbot etc) and tell them you're not interested in anything else they have to offer.
As for after sales, I've (touch wood) not had any trouble with the product, but if I did I'd go back to the branch armed with the sale of goods act..... it's there for a reason!
Merry Christmas 2011Please note: I am NOT Martin Lewis, just somebody else called Martyn that likes money saving!0
