If you let me know the model number of the laptop I can give you an idea of the cost of a panel for it then I guess trebble the cost if its HP fitting it or add £30-50 for a local solution. There are also a number of places you can send it away to online to have the screen replaced.

As a ball park figure you're probably looking at at least £100 for the repair.
  • Hi
This happened to me but I said I wanted quotes before sending it away. i told them exactly what was wrong and they then came back with a cost more that the laptop to replace the screen. I then went through my insurance company who paid for it to be sent away and again came up with a repair cost of more than the laptop so I got a cheque to buy a new one.
I got my broken laptop back and gave it to my boss who bought a new screen and keyboard and spent a year and a half fixing it which he has now managed to do i think the parts cost him under £150 but a lot of time . you could always DIY

eBay it for a replacement screen and it's normally not too difficult to replace.
When you find the picture of the replacement screen it should just be a ribbon connector that 'plugs in', so you don't need a degree in atom splitting to do it.

If its a screen and a keyboard it should take about an hour to fit. Its a little fiddly as you have probably 10-20 small screws to keep track of but there are usually detailed service manuals that tell you what order to remove what.
The screen panel itself is usually a lot less than £150 but with a keyboard too that sounds about right.

should do.. Try fixing it yourself first; by the time you've taken your old screen off you'll know whether you'll be confident fitting the new one. your old one is already broken so no harm if you crack it

It seems that Packard Bell don't publish their service manuals which would make it much trickier for a novice to do this repair.

As for the screen the price looks good but phone them up to make whether your model has the LED backlighting of CCFL (fluorescent tubes). I'm not sure you can tell on a broken screen without taking it apart.

This actually shows how to remove the keyboard but to get to the keyboard you have to expose the screen screws etc. So from that point it should be fairly simple
