Dismissed - Help!

I have just been dismissed on the grounds of performance.
I will give some background and would appreciate it if you think I have a case for unfair dismissal.
I was sent a text asking me to attend a meeting despite me being off sick. I then had a call asking me to go in and see them. When I got there, my manager was present and another employee and he informed me I was being dismissed for poor performance.
I had a mail in March stating my probation was over and a list of targets that needed achieving and also my salary increased.
I have completed some of the targets set but others are out of my control and could only be achieved if other departments did what they were supposed to.
I have not had any meeting since March saying my performance was in question, nor was I aware that the meeting today would be for my dismissal.
Can someone shed any light on where I stand due to only have 7 months service.
Thanks

Even with 7 months i'm pretty sure they still have to follow the standard 3 step procedure

I'm sure SarEl will give a better (and correct) response but I understand that within 12 months the company can dismiss for any reason and only give statutory minimum notice.0

Thanks for the replies.
I have never had a disciplinary with this company and the performance e-mail pointed out what I needed to achieve.
It did not say If didn't reach said targets I would be dismissed.
Up until today I had no idea that my performance was in question.0 -

You can be dismissed for no reason within 12 months and the 3 step procedure does not have to be followed.0 -
I'm fairly sure they must follow a standard disciplinary procedure, which has steps prior to dismissal.
They should make you aware of under-performance, and issue you with something like a performance improvement plan to help you achieve. There should also be an opportunity for you to say what help/training you need.
Finally, I would think that they cannot simply call you in whilst off sick??Before you ask, yes, I work for a bank, but no, I didn't get a bonus!0 -
Did they go into detail about what aspects of your performance they were dismissing you for?0

No they just shown me a printout of the email I received 4 months ago.
They didn't discuss anything, just said the decision to dismiss me had been made and he wouldn't change his mind.0 -

can't link directly to it as it's a Word doc... but it happened to me a few years ago and i had the full 3 steps.0 -
Hammy is right, unless you get dismissed for discrimination reasons (sex, gender etc) they can sack you how they want whatever way they want in the first 12 months as long as they provide the correct notice.
You have very little rights until you have passed that first 12 months. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Yes you are supposed to as good practice but if they don't and you have not done 12 months you have very little comebackThe Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
