dvd to divx or xvid conversion tool

Hi,
I have tried several progs to do this including nero 7 which converts to nero digital which wont play on my dvd player as an xvid or div x. Anyone have any easily used progs they can suggest??

However, for some Auto Gordian Knot is easier to understand:

All you really need to do is ensure you've got your chosen divx\xvid codec installed, launch the program, select the codec from a list, input the size of the eventual output file and hit the go key.
