Scottish Power account in credit
I was asked for meter readings recently for my Scottish Power account - and when I logged in I saw that my account was £700 in credit . After giving the readings, I given a prompt that indicated my monthly direct debit would be reduced from £120 a month to £100 a month - but surely at this rate I will still continue to rack up an even larger credit?
I understand the principle of paying more in the summer to cover the winter months, but surely such a large credit in my account is excessive? That amount of money would be far better used elsewhere - but what are my chances of getting some sort of rebate?

They always send me a cheque when the time comes to work out my new direct debit once a year as I'm always in credit.
I don't think they like to do this before but why not ask sooner.0 -
I agree about giving them a call. They may be prepared to sort a refund out sooner and revise your monthly DD.
I think usually they review accounts at set times (possibly annually from date of joining). That's probably why you haven't heard anything yet.
We had a cheque sent to us six months ago for over £400. Our Direct Debit was reduced from £120 to £75 automatically.
I think part of the problem with racking up credit lies with a new customer estimating future useage based on DD payments made with previous suppliers. This is also how the comparison sites come up with figures that are way out. The more accurate way to estimate future useage, is to call your supplier and ask for actual units used over the last year. I got these from Scottish Power the other day and used these in the comparison sites.
Wish I'd done this before.0 -
Hi,
have a read of this.
They will send you a refund when your annual review comes up, but take a meter reading and contact them again asking for a refund, no harm in that.0 -
I'm always in credit with them too, they said they would send a cheque but talked me out of it saying it should be in credit to cover the winter months, so I didn;t bother in the end. I will maybe look again. They reduced my DD by £1 lol.0

Same happened to me with British Gas. I just called them and they credited my account with the £450 credit within 3 days. Hopefully Scottish Power should do the same.
