Discoloured bikini

I bought a bikini from Bravissimo which is white with a coral coloured pattern on it. I wore it two or three times on holiday and washed it with travel wash each evening and allowed it to dry naturally. I noticed that the area around the edges of the top and the bottoms have gone a bit yellow looking.

Could someone let me know where I stand as far as my consumer rights, I paid £65 for it and feel that even a cheap one should last longer than 1 holiday let alone an expensive one like this.

I know it's not a depending factor but I do still have my reciept

Mine do this from chlorine and suncream- or so I thought!

If that was the case why has it only discoloured round the edges where the stitching is? It is a tankini top so the whole of the top would have come into contact with the lotion on my stomach, but the main part of the material isn't discoloured. If the stitching has discoloured on reaction with suntan lotion it seems like it is not fit for purpose, as it is beachwear then it would be expected that it would have some contact with suncream.

You would also expect suncream to stain it.

It's not stained though, it's discoloured. If it was stained then why would it be just on the parts where the stitching is and all the way round?

Because the stitching thread is of a different material?

But it isn't the stitching which has changed colour, it is the material along the stitch line.

First of all, I'm a bloke so I know nothing about bikini's.
But £65 for a bikini? I bought a suit, shirt and shoes for less than half that!
Frankly, at that price, I'd expect it to be resistant to all known forms of contaminants!
Just take it back and explain that you expected a higher standard than this and the price of the item should reflect that fact.
I suspect they may try and fob you off with excuses regarding sun tan lotions etc but as far as I'm concerned, thats the very environment its supposed to be exposed to.
Also, unless you comply with Outposts perfectly reasonable request earlier, I will not be offering you any further opinions.

The item is expensive, its a very particular garment whichonly sells in small numbers per size - it sounds as if the thread used to make the bikini is not colourproof to either salt or chlorine, something which it should be considering its application.

I would call them and see what they say they will probably ask to see it instore or return it - I would imagine they are likely to provide gift voouchers or something (Bravissimo's markup on products is nothing short of obscene...)
