Tiles opinion

Hi,

Our bathroom is being tiled and we have floor and will tiles that are from the same range and are supposed to go together.

Our tiler recommended grey grout on the floor for ease of maintinence.

We are not sure about the result. Love the wall tiles just not sure if the contrast caused by the grey grout is too much.

Might look a bit less dramatic once the sink and rads are in?

Do you think it a grower or should I scrape the grout out?

Scraping grout out to regrout in the same colour is fine. Scraping it out to regrout in a different is extremely difficult as you have to get every trace of it out or it will look patchy and whole lot worse.

I think your tiling looks good.

Grey tones are normal on floors - light colours discolour very quicky and are a pig to keep clean.

Good tiling! Would agree that grey grout on floors is standard practice as light colours tend to end up grey as grout is rough and picks up dirt. However this matters less in bathrooms than say kitchens or hallways which attract a lot more dirt in general.

Phil is right, regrouting in a different colour is pig of a job and though it might have looked nicer in a lighter colour I would definitely now let it be.

bathroom002.jpg Actually on looking at mine, I like the contrast of the dark with the light so maybe once your radiator and sink, bath in ect it might look better for you....

Thanks all. Considering taking the tiles back up and starting again on the floor. Should be a fun job!

They would only really go teogether properly if the wall tiles were vertical. Whats really putting you off is that the way its been done none of the grout liones line up and thats being accentuated by the grey grout on the floor.

Stick the bath, basin etc in and have a look to see it it tones it down a bit. No don't install them just put them in the room.

Have the walls and floor really been tiled in areas which won't be seen - under the bath etc like it looks. Waste of money if so. Whatever possessed you?

I recently did a job for a client who had me lay light coloured porcelain tiles and fancied white grout. "Are you sure?" said I? "Oh yes!" "Are you really sure?" I said. "Oh certainly - yes!". Few days later "Its not right - can we change it to grey"? "Yep OK then - but its extra cost". Absolute pig of a job as posters above have said.

    Cheers

    Cheers,

I think it would look fine if the floor tiles were the same shade as the wall tiles.

I do think adding the rads etc will tone it down a bit though.

Haven't tiles under the bath or shower tray you just can't see them in the picture its a big bathroom the pipework is for a rad and sink.

My OH wanted white grout in the floor tiling - our plumber, of 30-odd years experience, dug his heels in and said "White grout will just pick up all the dirt and look dirty in no time"

Went for mid-grey and OH is now very happy with it.
