creditors meeting 3 months away?
Called CCCS on Friday about how things are going only to be told that it may take 2 to 3 months to get the IVA sorted out.
I wondered if anyone else has been given these timescales, or whether it is just the CCCS who are behind with their applications.
The born worrier in me is now thinking that we will not get our IVA accepted because of such a massive increase in proposals at the minute

Can't say what CCCS timescales are usually like -- I am with a private firm and it took 6 weeks from first phone call to creditors meeting. Admittedly that was fast ( using couriers for paperwork saves a lot of time) Usual timescal for a straightforward proposal is around 8 weeks.0

Our initial phone call was at the end of May. It has taken a while as each step of the way seemed to take another week or two. We have got all the documents back to the CCCS as soon as we could (within a week) If it is another 3 months before it is finalised, then that will have taken 5 months all in all. The delay so far has come from waiting 2 weeks for initial interview, then another couple of weeks for another interview. then some sort of legal phone call to go through the documents - again waiting for an appointment.
I noticed in some of your previous posts that yours took 6 weeks and they didn't notice anything was wrong.
I am concerned about further phone calls etc from our creditors as it is taking so long (particularly as they have been ringing my OH at work). Can you tell me do the CCCS now contact our creditors and deal with them directly, or can I expect phone calls right up until the point the IVA is agreed (or not!) Shall I update our creditors in phone calls to them?0 -
Hi -- they do seem to be taking an inordinately long time! Once you have returned the signed proposal to CCCS they will contact creditors with a meeting date (not actually a physical meeting 9 times out of 10). The Creditors have to be given 16 days notice. This was done by my lot the same day they had my signed papers back and I had the meeting two weeks later.
Regarding phone calls ... I am afraid there is not much you can do to stop them -- some people even had them after the IVA was agreed. These calls come from call centres who aren't kept in the loop ( most of the time they don't even know what an IVA is!). The best bet -- if you answer them at all, is to refuse the security questions, then they cannot continue with the call, or simply state name, rank and serial number .... OK IP's name, company and reference number. Do not get into any conversations and do not be bullied into making a payment.
I must admit I used to play with mine on the phone ... let them ramble on whilst I watched TV, popping in the odd "hmmm" and "uh-huh". Then, when they run out of steam, they always ask, "Are you going to make a payment?" and I simply said "No" -- shuts them up for a second, then I hit them with the IVA details and hang up.
Having said that, a couple were really nice and polite, one even rang up just to wish me luck with the meeting!0 -
thanks foggy. We're not even at the proposal stage yet, so its really taking its toll.
We've not really had a good start with the IP as we said we have £200 each month to pay the IVA. They have suggested that in the next couple of months we pay our creditors in even splits (i.e. 1/3 of the £200 to the creditor who we owe 1/3 to etc etc)
However, our middle son starts 'big' school this time and his uniform, shoes, bag, PE kit etc comes to around £200. Our oldest son starts a year when the uniform changes (why do they do that?) and so he will need a whole new set of jumpers, plus he needs new PE kit, shoes, football boots etc - probably another £100 at the very least. The youngest has been wearing uniform too small for her for about the last 6 months, so will need some herself - although ASDA will come in useful for that!
I have had to say to the IP's office that this next month or two, I will need those funds spare each month to pay for the uniforms. I am just worried that this does not seem a good start. We will only be able to send our creditors token payments.0 -
Many do make token payments -- I made none -- but my time was short and most creditors didn't really notice. I am assured that it makes little difference at the meeting. Many IP's will advise you to try to put some of the "missed" payments into a pot to hang onto in case of emergencies ( a washing machine or the car is just bound to go pop during the 5 / 6 years!).
Our youngest starts a new school this year ..... with purple as it's school colours! Can get blue and green everywhere ... but purple !!???0 -
Lol. Not the usual ASDA colours me thinks!:rotfl:0

OH dear we have gone with them too just sending the proposal back now will let u know the outcome0

Thanks, Hopefully we won't be too far behind your date.
Have they given you any indication of how long it will take?0 -
Hi,
I am with CCCSVA and yes it did take longer than what I had read about other peoples, my initial call was 13th April and today 5th July I had my creditors meeting, so twice as long as the average IVA, dont really know why it took so long, it was 1 month between my draft proposal being returned and the meeting being set! I was advised to make equal token payments to all 12 creditors but I didnt make any, I have never spoke to my IP either, but any query I have had has been dealt with efficiently and staff are very friendly, so far no problems but time will tell ...... oh forgot to add my IVA was accepted today with no modifications, woo hoo......good luck with your journeys!
Ps. Iva.co.uk (forum) is excellent for asking questions on IVA's, very helpful friendly lot on there!0 -
Congrats on the acceptance Oscarsmum :-) May your journey be a smooth one :-)0
