I am going to be working over the Next sale.
I am very nervous about it. I have been on mat leave for the last 12 months and don't go back to work until Sept. I am having a couple of months off unpaid, hence working during the sale, to bring in a few extra pennies to tide us over.
Is anybody else working during the sale, or have you ever done it before? Have I let myself in for something really bad? What is their policy on workers getting sale items?
I have an induction on Thurs, I am so nervous about it already. I have forgotten what its like to be around so many people and I am going to miss my baby so much

do you mean you are working for another company whilst being given a couple of months unpaid work for your current company? The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!
If I give you advice it is only a view and always always take professional advice before acting!!!

Does your current company know about this because it could seriously pee them of if they have allowed you two months extra unpaid (that they didn't have to) for you to go and work for another company?
I hope you say they do know...The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

If you read in my first post, I am currently on maternity leave. I am not claiming maternity pay from my employer, I had not worked there for long enough when I found out I was pregnant, I am claiming maternity allowance, which ends in a week. I am taking unpaid leave which I am entitled to, as you can take 12 months off, 39 weeks paid and the rest unpaid.
My employer does not know about it, as I didn't think that they would need to know. It is only for 3 days. I am not going to be working for a different company for the whole two months that I am off.January GC £33/200

You are still employed by the company regardless if they are paying your maternity leave or not an whilst you are entitled to the unpaid leave it is still poor form (but when I look on the net not illegal and you are quite correct in doing what you are doing) not to ask your current employer (who is paying you holiday leave still for these months)
Also have you not heard of Keeping in Touch days, these are upto 10 whole days where you can go and work for your employer whilst not affecting your maternity pay (it does need both yours and the employers agreement). The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

I know nothing about keeping in touch days, my manager has not mentioned anything abou that to me.
I feel that your posts are a little bit rude tbh. I have not not told my employer about this to be sly, I did not realise I had to. But now that it has been highlighted to me, I shall get in touch with them.
I did not realise that you had to inform employers of other jobs. A few years ago I had one job and then took on another, I did not need to inform them of them of my second job.January GC £33/200

I was wrong, I thought you wouldn't be able to do what you are doing but you can only not do it without it affecting anything whilst on the paid part of the maternity leave.
I don't think you have to tell them so if you don't want to don't and I apologise if you think my posts are rude. (However I do stand by the point that I would be a tad annoyed that you worked for another company whilst you were on maternity leave from my company)
Have a read up on KIT days, might be worth it to get some extra money in and get yourself upto date with any changes in your current work place. The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

It is a minefield, you need to check on the legalities because I found this on the net
'Working
You can work for your boss for up to 10 days during your leave without it causing a problem for your rights to maternity or adoption leave and pay. Your boss doesn't have to offer you this, and you don't have to do it if they do. It is upto you to agree between you if this would be helpful and, if so, what you should be paid.
You cannot work for another employer during your leave, but you can do self-employed work.'
Really someone like SarEL is needed to give you a definitive answer or call ACAS about it.The Googlewhacker referance is to Dave Gorman and not to my opinion of the search engine!

Totally agree with the highlighted part. As stated above, I didn't think I needed to inform them, no other reason for not telling them. Although I only found out later afternoon today, so couldn't of got in touch with them about it yet.
My mat pay ends as of the 10th July. We have been saving to put money aside for me not bringing in any money, but with the prices of everything going up it will be tight.
I shall read up on KIT days, thank you for that.January GC £33/200

Hi Olivia
I haven't worked for Next myself but a good friend worked there for years and he loved it.
It will be hectic but I think it will be a good atmosphere being there during the sale.
It's only natural you'll miss your little one hun, but you know with it being 3 days long it may just break you back into the whole back to work thing. Hope it goes okay for you xWhen you're going through hell, keep going...0
