Hi,
I have recently uninstalled a load of programs which I thought weren't needed but now something I do need won't work and think I must have uninstalled something important.
Is there any way I can recover the uninstalled files? Just had a look on FileHippo and there is a programe there to download called "Recuva". But wondered if anyone here could recommend something good/safe to use?
Have looked in my add/remove programs box but it no longer says "restore uninstalled files" so at a loss for what else I could try. Feel like a complete idiot now, was only trying to save disc space as I kept getting a message re being low in C: disc space.
Ever so grateful for any help with this.

You might be able to recover the files, however many applications also have settings in the registry which would have also been lost. So just getting the files back may not solve your problem.0

Just download and re-install the missing programs. What are they?
Recuva is normally used to recover lost data (documents, photos, videos, music etc), not uninstalled programs.604!0 -
I presume you are running XP or higher.
If so do a system restore to a point before you uninstalled the programs.
I think this will restore them.0 -
What do you need to do that doesn't work?
System restore might help as well.0 -
I've done the same thing! Got rid of stuff I thought was not of use and now have no sound.
I've tried the DELL website (downloads and drivers). This did not work until I had installed something else, which I did and now it still does not work.
I've got the details at home (I'm at work) if it helps, but would be grateful for any advice please!0 -
Yep, try System Restore first.604!0

Hi
Thanks everyone for the repiles. I've read up about System restore now which is something I didnt even know about (doh!).
Anyway fortunately have managed to dig out the disc for the program I uninstalled by mistake so have been able to re-install it and all is well - phew! Won't be merrily uninstalling quite so readily in future!
Good to know about the system restore though just in case ever needed in the future so thx for that info.0 -
programs use little space
is the c drive really full, and do you have a d partition?!!

Hi,
Many thanks for your reply. I guess I just assumed that programs would be the heaviest/largest things occupying space.
I keep getting a message pop up at bottom of screen saying you are running really low on C disk space so that's what's got me worried. I do have around 20 or 30 GB of music stored on there.
What is a "D partition"?! Think I have a D drive which is the CD drive. Sorry, not at all technical....0 -
Get yourself one of these

or similar and store all your music etc on it and never worry about running out of space again0
