    They can't get out of paying the legally-required third party costs, but depending on the terms of your policy, they may try and recover that cost from you.

    Probably a couple of quid. You could actually end up paying MORE for a lower speed rating if the higher rating is a very popular tyre thus making it cheaper to produce.
