Electric prepay meter issue

I charged the electric key with £35. The current balance is £21. When I go to insert the key there is no change in the £21 displayed. Normally when it is inserted, there is small writing with 'Token' and '1' beneath it before updating the balance to the new amount. This time however the £21 display goes away and it simply then says Token accepted in small writing before displaying £21. The £35 doesn't get credited
I'm with EON and tried phoning them, but they are really quite useless just telling me to put the key in, take it out, blow it and put it back in before telling me to visit the shop I topped up at who in turn say they can't do anything and I just need to phone EON. It's an annoying cycle.
I'm thinking now that there might be a maximum balance the meter can have but I've had the meter with well over £50 in it before so I don't know. Can anyone help?

Hi chaz
I'm sorry you've not been given more help when calling in.
Sounds as though the key needs replacing but not from your local retailer. This needs to be issued by one of our prepayment teams.
Talk to one of these teams (contact details are on your statements) and explain the circumstances. They can issue keys and arrange for them to be correctly programmed. Agents in other areas of the business don't have this sort of access.
Tell them the £35 hasn't been added to your meter. This will need putting on.
The maximum amount a key can hold in one charge is £250 so putting £50 on the meter is no problem.
Hope this helps point you in the right direction chaz. Give me a shout if you need any more info as happy to help.
