I've an emachines E525 laptop nearly a year old..last few days started to boot VERY slowly..& sometimes into "repair windows" mode, last night one long beep on startup eventually into windows then switched itself off & wont come back on now
Any ideas how much this is likely to cost?

Tried that still no joy...been trying to speak to someone at emachines most of the day, the laptop came from asda & cant find the bloomin receipt so they refuse to do anything (we paid cash)Friends help you move. Real friends help you move bodies.

I would suggest going into Asda and speaking with Cust services. Not a laptop, but I had teh same thing with a tv/dvd player that went bang, no receipt - they checked with head office, ran teh serial number, confirmed it was a product they had sold and replaced while I waited.
I find that if you are calm, polite and smile a lot, you tend to get a better response from the Asda staff than most other places. Asda staff seem to have a fair bit more discretion on dealing with customers, and will only fall into 'computer says no' if you upset them

Legally you don't need a receipt, just proof of purchase - bank, credit or debit card statements if they show you bought it from Asda.604!0 -
