Right, decided to go with the idea of cooking it today to save time etc. Plus if it goes horribly wrong I'll have time for plan B. Question I have now which I forgot to ask, is do I carve it tonight or tomorrow, how do I store and reheat it, can't believe I didn't think of this until it was almost cooked :(

Any help muchos appreciated as always :)
One day I might be more organised...........

  • I would carve it into slices when cold. Then put into gravy and warm through when you're ready to eat it. Don't overcook it though!

I've got my thermo out which has guide temps for Beef at rare, medium and well done which seems to be working, I just tried a bit and it's so lovely :) it's just about ready to come out.

Will carve as soon as it cools, and make some gravy while it is cookng, this will save me so much time that I can spend with the little ones tomorrow, thanks all for your advice :) hopefully my first festive meal will be a nice one thanks to the OS board and Aunty Bessie and the other ready meal manufacturers who I used to rely on will not make any money out of it :)

Smell of it's making me, and the two dogs who's noses are on overdrive :rotfl: , feel very hungry

I always do my roast in slow cooker. Put on about 10,30 tonight with a bit of boiling water (use for gravy) and cook until about 8.30 tomorrow. Stand for a while, into the fridge (wrapped in foil) and easy to carve. Delicous!

It's in the slow cooker now, has been almost all day, just keep checking on it with it being the first one I have done. Did the water thing and put things like onions, mushrooms, carrots etc in the water so the gravy will hopefully taste fab!

Sorry that will be because I am in stressed mode and my grammar has gone out of the window. I resisted the AB yorkshires today, even if they were on offer I am determined to make my own!!

Sounds about right to me. The added vegs (mushrooms etc) will give extra flavour. Just had a lovely chicken dinner tonight - marinade thighs in sauce and then hot cooked with carrots, parsnips and sprouts! DH got the thighs (4) for 60p on a very good discount at Somerfield.

    Have a good one!

    Hi

This was reduced in my local co op and is only .23kg (says on packet)
Only thing is I haven't a clue what to do with it:confused:
I hardly ever cook meat (I'm veggie OH not but not too bothered gets enough at my mum's and his parents lol) thought it would be a nice change for him (OH that is )

Have had a search but tends to come up with joints on here.
Any suggestions for nice sauces etc?

    Thanks
