Fitting Alcove Shelving

Hi
I am looking to build some alcove shelving to house my record collection.
The alcove in question is quite wide at 52". We live in an old cottage so all the walls in question are stone.
Would it be best to fit battens to the wall first ?
Screw depth/type ?
Would i need a central support of some sort due to the weight ?
Any advice would be great
Thanks in advance
James

Battens - yes, side and back that way do away with central support.
6.5mm hole - brown plugs - 3"x10 wood screws will be more than sufficent to hold record weight. You may click thanks if you found my advice useful0
