White flies on my beds?

whitefly is a pain but unless you're "infested" it's not a problem.I read somewhere to use a portable vac to hoover em up :rotfl:'did try it once but got some funny looks on the lottie.
When I bring home any affected produce I just throw in bowl with cold water and sprinkle with half handful of salt (this works on greenfly and slugs)leave 10mins and the nasties decamp rinse well and cook.:)
Thank you for the replies, I shall try to ignore the little beasties. Just everytime I lift a leaf or something they all fly in my face (ugh).0 -
Try looking cross Emma, preferably while waiving a bar of soap. Perhaps they will take the hint and leave …... if that works, post here since that will definitely be organic and money saving!

I was surrounded with them when I trimmed back my sage - attacked them with a washing up liquid solution as don't want them going near my tomatoes! What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0

Sorry to be a bit thick, only been growing veg a couple of years, what's soft soap? Is it organic, as I get whitefly on my cabbage and lettuce.
Chunks beat me to it.
You can also use washing up liquid but I found that it was a bit of a pain to find one that wasn't hugely scented with random additives and then trial and error to work out the concentration which would kill the bugs and leave the leaves unaffected. Cheaper though.
I've had my eye on one in bulk here (would last me years, lol), but not invested yet as it's been a relatively bug free year up till now *ducks and waits for clouds of bugs to descend now I've said that* and I didn't want to kill off any ladybird larvae as they do a good job for me most years against aphids.

Haven't looked around though, there's probably cheaper ones out there on other sites, definitely smaller amounts available too.

on the subject of washing up liquid several plotholders swear by the lemon F...;) against aphids.
p.s. back to whitefly when we bring home some produce, days later when the OH opens the boot he's greeted by the little darlings:eek:0 -
Get the OH to take out the handheld vacuum macma. Suck up the pests and then do the boot while your at it. Job(s) done!
