Perhaps I should have been clearer! I believe it is too high a charge for what I believe is not £8 worth of work. Perhaps you know different but I think its too high. Also what IS disgusting is the way they hold your parcels to ransom until you have paid the fee - no other courier does this - they deliver and then invoice you.

as you are aware of it,I assume you do your own clearance on ordering outside the EU?

Well of course I don't do my own clearance, you know that, so its rather a silly question!

My most humblest apologies to you, I was not aware of that. Therefore, my corrected answer to your original question is, no I don't do my own clearance on ordering outside the EU.

It sounds as if you've either been overcharged by HMCE, or the sender put the wrong value on the package.

the reason £8 is disgusting is that royal mail, part of the same company as parcelforce, do it for £4

No I didn't.
I made no mention of import duty as there wouldn't have been any payable as the shipment was well under the £135 limit for this, and I did mention the clearance fee.
